Magic Number

As of today, USC can sign nine players to scholarships in January, which will not count against the 15 allowed in February.

  1. WHAT ABOUT GUYS WHO ARE LEAVING AT THE SEMESTER? WILL THAT OPEN UP EVEN MORE SCHOLIES?

HOW MANY TROJANS WILL BE LEAVING AFTER THE SEASON FOR THE DRAFT, GRADUATION OR TRANSFERRING BECAUSE OF SANCTIONS?

  2. Probably not too many kids ready to graduate early, so it seems as though there may end up being a few (possibly not ready for prime time) JC transfers getting schollys. It should at very least help with some depth issues though..

  3. anyone who graduates at the semester will not open up another schollie because the number is limited to 25 from the 2010 class. since usc signed only 18 or 19 and a few were EE’s, now usc can sign 9 additional. i’ve heard of several o-lineman that usc is considering. anyone got info re: JC linebackers? i don’t know where to look.

  4. Might be able to get some good defensive players from North Carolina after that program implodes. Head & Assistant coach (Butch Davis & John Blake) used to be head coaches at guess where……MIAMI & OKLAHOMA. No doubt where they learned their trade.

  5. ronald powell should just call up barkley right now and find out where the living god lives college football. he never should have left his hometown for that desolated swamp full of slithery gators. GQ just called LA the coolest city on the planet. come back home my son

  6. I think Wolf’s wrong. If the appeal is resolved unfavorably before spring enrollment, SC will have a limit of 75 scholarship players. SC currently has 73 scholarship players, including Wright but excluding Vainuku. Unless any current SRs get a medical redshirt 16 SRs will have used up their eligibility; which means that unless any other guys quit, transfer or declare early for the draft, SC will return 57 scholarship players. SC would be able to bring in 18 players as long as at least 3 of them were counted against the class of 10 by enrolling early since the yearly cap is limited to 15 by the sanctions.
On the other hand, SC brought in or awarded 18 scholarships for 2010: Pullard, Di Poalo, Scroggins, Morgan, Grimble, Telfer, Ambles, Woods, Uko, Thomas, Bailey, Wright, Robey, Brown, Markowitz, Collier, Cumming & Houston (Baxter, Prater & Hall counted against class of 09). The regular 25-limit applied to class of 10, so SC could still sign 7, not 9 early enrollees, no?

  7. Oh, I think I get it now. Wolf doesn’t know yet that Scroggins has been cleared by the NCAA yet. And he’s just assuming that Wright won’t clear. That would get you from 7 to 9. Wright I can understand, but come on, the OC Register reported that Scroggins had cleared yesterday.

  8. The NCAA cleared freshman safety Demetrius Wright, who had missed about a week because of academic issues. At least that’s what the OC Register is reporting.
