Lane Kiffin was asked tonight why former USC quarterback Matt Leinart’s struggled in the NFL.
“I have no idea. We’ve got a lot of problems ourselves to figure out,” he said. “Last time I spoke to him during training camp, things were going great for him. Sometimes a change of scenery is good to people.”
Already, there is speculation that Caesar might want Leinart.

FWAA Reaction
I’m a member of the FWAA and was asked to present the Grantland Rice Trophy to Pete Carroll at the national championship celebration at USC in 2005. With that in mind, I’m disappointed by today’s decision. It seems silly to vacate a title that everyone saw a team win and attempt to alter history. The games took place. Everyone knows the results. Even more illogical was the decision not to include USC in this year’s FWAA rankings. Why punish the 2010 team for something they had nothing to do with?
The BCS will follow suit at some point and vacate the 2005 Orange Bowl. But at the end of the day, USC remains the only national champion in the 2004 season because it is the Associated Press champs, the only selectors who allowed their title results to stand.
Haden On Football Writers’ Title Being Vacated
Earlier today, the Football Writers Association of America notified USC that it would vacate the 2004 national title.
Here is USC athletic director Pat Haden’s statement:
“Due to the NCAA penalties, we understand the actions taken by the Football Writers Association of America, and we will abide by that ruling. While we know that some fans and former student-athletes may be disappointed, our central priority at this time is our overall commitment to compliance and this action is in line with the standards we have set for our entire athletic program.”
Poll Position
According to an ESPN magazine poll of Pac-10 players, 44.4 percent said Stanford’s Jim Harbaugh is the best coach. USC coach Lane Kiffin finished first in the category of coach I would never want to play for.
Morning Buzz
Safety Demetrius Wright must submit even more paperwork than Jesse Scroggins for the NCAA to clear him academically.
Patterson Update
Former USC wide receiver Travon Patterson is listed as the likely starter at wide receiver and starting punt returner on Colorado’s depth chart.
Radio Rewind
Here is radio at its finest. My appearance today on the Petros and Money where I insulted Petros at least four times.
