  1. Interesting how many former players (especially those from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s) think Reggie should keep his Heisman. Perhaps these players received extra benefits as well?

  2. Wait wait wait… start from the top. What’s this about Reggie Bush being accused of taking money from agents? Has anyone told the NCAA?

  3. Reggie should sell the trophy on EBay, take the money and run……just like the good old days. Or maybe create the Disassociated Athlete Endowment Fund to help under privileged football players who aren’t good enough to catch an agent’s attention. Funnel the money thru the Better LA Foundation.

  4. I’m surprised Peyton Manning’s dad would take such a permisive attitude. Peyton and Eli seem like pretty solid guys.

  5. Maybe other players received “extra benefits” maybe not, but Bush had to be the dumbest of the dumbest to have been the only one to get caught, and at the same time USC was the dumbest school ever to have allowed this to happen. Bill Plaschke told Carroll many times to tone it down, and Carroll would just tell him “nothing’s gonna happen” stupid arrogant trojans, I’m so glad the NCAA finally clamped down on this LAUGH FACTORY called USC, stupid arrogant morons.

  6. Interesting, I wouldn’t have expected that opinion and hadn’t heard about Archie Manning’s support either.

  7. Like the Cushing Rookie-of-the-year vote, a can of worms is opened if we start to attempt a rewrite history. Part of the reluctance to force Bush to return the Heisman Trophy is the lengthy delay between the award’s presentation and now. Isn’t this ancient history?

Don’t get me wrong, I am still pissed at Bush for what he did (including the second biggest bonehead play in Rose Bowl history), and just yelled at him on the TV for screwing USC. But, he sure earned the trophy on the field.

They asked the Heisman winners whether they would require him to keep or return it. The vote was 33-21 to return it. Maybe we should investigate the 21 that voted for him to keep it. Are they hiding something? After all, if they can take the Heisman back after nearly four years, then why not 40 years ago?

Should we reopen the Charles Woodson case? As noted in a Yahoo article: “The only comparable situation is 1997 winner Charles Woodson, who in 2001 was alleged to have taken almost $14,000 in improper benefits from an agent during his Heisman campaign. Woodson denied taking benefits, and the University of Michigan and NCAA were never able to substantiate claims of impropriety.”

Let the bastard — who once thrilled us with his on-field performance — keep his trophy.

  8. Sorry, but Archie knows full well what went on in the Maurice Clarrett situation and the Buckeyes absolutely skated, so it would be highly disingenuous for him to be self-righteous about Bush returning his trophy. In fact Wolfie, have you even looked at the facts of the NCAA Clarrett extra-benefits “investigation?” The facts were far worse that the Bush case, yet no meaningful sanctions. Anyone who says USC should have self-imposed a bowl ban and a 10 or so scholarships have no idea what they are talking about given the Clarett precedent.

  9. I agree. Further, it wasn’t Reggie that benefited; it was his step-father. His step-father makes a deal with his high school buddy in their living room and somehow Reggie and USC get all of the punishment. Shame on the NCAA!

They also knew that Reggie’s heap (yes heap, it was a 9 year old car that was dirt cheap new!) was not given to him by the friends of his step-father, but by his mother and step-father. The car was well within their income as it cost about a month salary at McDonald’s. Most importantly, was not given to him in Dec. of ’04 as the NCAA claimed. He received the car (listed as the first benefit) in the spring of ’05 making the ’04-’05 USC championship fully legit. The mistake was corrected by USC, however the NCAA chose to ignore the car registration and stick with their mistake with absolutely no supporting evidence or statements by anyone. That is not appealable either – pretty disgusting!

I’m very tired of the NCAA punishing the athletes and schools for the actions of friends and family that do not even share with the athlete. And now kids that had nothing to do with anything are being punished. Just how does that add up?

  10. HONESTLY, I don’t care what happens anymore as long as it happens QUICKLY. All Trojan faithful should be pushing for a speedy resolution to this matter so that our team can focus on playing ball. I think both Bush and Carroll are treasonous traitors to the program and should be afforded only the slightest morsel of respect.

  11. …or soupon of respect. whatever your preference.

Like I have said, from the ashes (NCAA sanctions), like Phoenix, we will rise!!

    FIGHT ON!!!!

  12. I think to call Reggie Bush and Pete Carrol traitors is ridiculous. College football is big business. Both these gentleman made USC a ton of money and i don’t see anyone offering to return that money. I think Pete is smart and moved on at the right time. His leadership brought USC back to prominence.
The NCAA takes advantage of the college athletes. They should be paid a large stipend or salary so they can buy their own things. The colleges make tons of money off of these kids. Granted they get a scholarship, but so do other athletes from other sports and they do not bring the colleges as much money. The amateur label is no longer valid. If these kids get injured or maimed no one gives a damn..it’s next. It’s always be competing.
