Robey Mention

Cornerback Nickell Robey received honorable mention selection for the Jim Thorpe Award this week.
“Robey had 3 tackles and 2 interceptions including a 25-yard touchdown return in USC’s 50-16 win at Washington State. Robey become the first Trojan freshman to get two picks in a game since Mike Salmon did so in 1990 against Arizona State.”

  1. I guess they changed the rule for the reward. Give up TD’s and big plays at every turn and you too can win the Jim Thorpe Award.
Seriously though, one good sign is that the kid has a short term memory. After he got scorched early he responded with a pick 6.
He’s still the most exploited player in the defensive backfield.

  2. Robey is critical to our success this year and is playing very much like you’d expect from a talented, but young, true freshman. He’s looked very, very bad at times and brilliant at other times. Probably more so than any other player on the team, I’m glad that we had a relatively weak schedule in first 4 games to help Robey get his feet wet. Good news is that he’s shown improvement and hope he continues getting better because the PAC 10 coaches are going to make him make plays.
