Why has Ed Orgeron fared so poorly in the Fight Club scenarios? He’s only batting around .500 with the only easy win having come against The Fat Booster. Regardless of all the variables presented, would you not think The Big O should easily be undefeated in the Fight Club?

Have you thought about asking for an overseas job of covering the EPL or German soccer league since covering USC football for the next 10 years will be ugly?

  • jkstewart2

Why is SC bad? (seems like last year, but worse)
Does Kiffin have the skills to fix the problems?
    Is this why PC punted?

  • spedjones

Does is make any sense at this point that SC is still mainly recruiting WRs/skill players?

  • ALBY

How long until the Del Rio era begins???

  • NOBS

How about giving Kiff the nickname of : Boy Blunder

  • MBA07

Scott, what do you blame the most for the poor defensive performance in all of our games so far: Monte Kiffin’s playcalling, talent level, or lack of tackling during practice? My vote goes to Monte Kiffin.

  • dtksr1

Monte Kiffin needs to realize he is over his head handling the defensive coordinator position in college football where there are an array of offensive philosophies he has never seen in professional football and his claim-to-fame tampa 2 defense is helpless stopping. Hawaii was a heads up, Washington an eye opener and, Oregon “will”, possibly UCLA and maybe Arizona contributes a few coins to buy the postage on the SC seasonal package and send it DOA! It will probably take the “pretty faired haired boy” in the AD office to force this issue as I think Lane-brain will try to protect the family business here. But the way, evidently the “mad-hatter” Les Miles can screw up a game and still win it. Something Lane Kiffin still cannot do!

  • snarfy

Will the sun ever shine again?

  • Free_Thinker

dtksr1 – I am inclined to agree on the Tampa 2. Either the kids not getting it, or it just isn’t working.

Stanford is a very good team and would be tough under any circumstances, but they will kill us if we play as we did against Huskies.

  • bushwhite

    scott

I keep hearing kiffin say the defense is “tired” why are they so tired and “Dead” and “Gassed”?

    1. he is not using substitutes why?

    2. the players are not in good condition

he keeps saying the defense is “tired” but why so tired to the point they are losing the game?

  • BoscoH

In the 4th quarter of the Jets game today, Joe McKnight got a few carries. In the 1st quarter of yesterday’s USC game, Whitney Blaine was in a television commercial promoting her school. Which of the two goes on to have a better career?

  • kconway

who would have been pat haden’s choice for sc head coach?

how does president nikias look at football as compared to president sample?

  • tom_floyd

Time to start thinking about basketball. Will your good buddy Petros be courtside again this season behind the PA microphone after he fulfills his football broadcasting obligations?

  • Trojan Conquest

Why doesn’t USC have a better field goal kicker?

  • uscmike

Why did USC forget about Stanley Havili? He had only two touches this week after he torched Minnesota. If something works, why not stick with it? I realize Bradford was a great, primary option, but Havili should get more touches, at least in the passing game. Is USC wasting his talent?

As always, thanks for the forum Scott.

  • gotroy22

Where do you stand on the time out controversy: Should Sunshine have called them when the Huskies were driving to the winning field goal or was he correct to save them to ice the UW kicker?

  • Jay#42

USCmike, Havii (as called by pa announcer in Minnesota, had zero touches in Minnesota. Havili torched WSU. And had only 2 touches in UDub, each positive, and would have been the perfect counter to Bradford.

Why doesn’t the The Kiffer have counter plays to the plays he calls? i.e Why didn’t he run Dillion Baxter, an ex QB, in the WildCat to counter Tyler?

  • TrojanChamp

Why were Robert Woods and Dillion Baxter not used more in the offense? Woods was doing well early in the season and USC needs a wide receiver to groom to replace Ronald Johnson.

  • MRSAM

Do you think losing to Washington for the second time and the other Pacific Ten teams doing well this season will hurt USC in the mind’s of recruits? Many recruits who attended the game were considering Washington, do you think this hurts USC chances with the recruits?

  • uscmike

    Thanks Jay42, I stand corrected.

  • lbc trojan

Why hasn’t USC recruited any good kickers? UCLA has had good kickers (like Kai Forbath currently) and has been successful every year. Oh wait..

  • superlaker24

Do you think UCLA doing well and USC playing okay will cause more high school recruits to choose UCLA over USC?

  • gilligan

I don’t recall seeing or hearing Galippo’s name during the game; why has the coaching staff stubborn to give him more minutes and my second part, what are they going to do about tackling to prevent additional yards after a catch? UW gained some important first downs by their WRs gaining some large chunks of yards after catching the ball. Thank you in advance.

  • luvsctrojans

Scott, since the defense wasn’t stopping UW do you let them score and SC gets the ball back with three timeouts left and time on the clock?

mike and jay: I saw Havili holding his hand going to the trainer’s table sometime in the first quarter. He went back in the game and carried the ball once after that, but never saw him again. Maybe, there was/is a problem with his hand.

  • luvsctrojans

Correction mike and jay: Havili dislocated his shoulder.

  • spedjones

Scott – as things continue to fall apart, how many players do you think SC stands to lose to transfer at the end of the season? I assume anyone with a year left could still go under the NCAA bowl ban loophole?

  • USC owns the Rose Bowl

You gave the running game only a B+. Allen Bradford had a career day with 220+ yards. Marc Tyler was effective out of the wildcat formation, but even that was not necessary with the success AB was having. Why do you insist Kiffin put in true freshman Dillon Baxter? What would he have done? AB wouldnt’ve developed the rhythm that he did, the O-line was opening great holes for AB to hit, and you want a true freshman in to dance around looking to make a big play? Why?

  • scinsc5

scott- you are an AP voter with capital knowledge. do you think it was a huge mistake by CLK to not use his timeouts at the end of the washington game when washington had the ball and the clock was moving inexorably downward while i was throwing things at my TV?

Coach Kiffen sees improvement…. Judging by what I am looking at, I don’t see a measurable amount of it after 4 games played. The goal of being 4 & 0 has been met. So what’s the next goal? Is part of the sanctions showing up on the field looking like a half dead team? Its like the team is being limited & held back. Just because Kiffin doesn’t bounce up & down like a pogo stick like PC, doesn’t mean the team can’t get some emotion & energy to explode on the field…

I second another readers sentiment and would like to ask the same question in hopes of a good answer.

Could you please explain your grade of C- for the Special Teams against Wazzou? They blocked a punt, blocked an Extra Point, were a perfect 7-7 on their Extra Points, including a successful 2 pointer, and had perfect kick coverage. Despite all that, because Joe Houston missed a FG before the half, they barely pass with a C-? Please explain this logic.

Would you give Barkley a B- if he completed only 24 of 25 passes? It’d probably be a pretty horrendous incompletion…

    Thanks.

Lane Kiffin begins his first year as being hired by the previous athletic director Mike Garrett .The new athletic director Pat Haden and the president Max Nikias never hired him. He has a tough job with the sanctions and players leaving. Recruiting will be hard with the sanctions, other teams doing well, and a drop in wins likely. USCs team did okay last year and people were disappointed. USC faces some tough teams this season with more losses likely. Many people expect the same result as when Pete Carroll was here with 10 plus wins. If USC struggles, how many years do you think Lane Kiffin will get before he is fired or will he leave?

  • USCfan

Is Monte Kiffin just a genius for his Tampa 2 and a failure at other defensive formations? Why wouldn’t he add different hybrids to the defense to mix it up? Why hasn’t the Tampa 2 worked? If the players stick to their assignments it will work right?
