In this segment, questions about the January signing period and USC’s talent.

How many kids can SC sign in January and what are the chances that they fill that number?

A: They can sign nine players. Former Tennessee offensive tackle Aaron Douglas and Bakersfield QB Cody Kessler are two players who will come in January.

A question regarding USC’s place in the AP poll. Obviously they don’t matter this year, and despite USC having obvious weaknesses here and there (lack of depth, young secondary, etc), do you believe there are 25+ teams in the country that would/could beat USC? (Missouri, Ok State, etc that you ranked ahead of SC) Heck, even some “top 10” teams. I sure don’t!
Ps. This was my thinking BEFORE the Cal game. With the firepower on offense. Just.. too.. much

A: I think on pure talent, USC is definitely a top 25 team. Maybe top 15. But there’s just been some huge problems on defense (whether coaching or inexperience) that caused a loss to Washington that will haunt Lane Kiffin all season. Much more than the Stanford loss because that was against a quality well-coached team.

I was watching the USC game from TV. It was the third quarter, when Kiffin Pulled out Barkley from the game with a comfrtable 45 points lead. I saw Barkley put an ear-phone on the sides lines, which I believe was an mp3 player. Don’t you think it is odd to totally isolate yourself from the game? He is the captain, and I would want him to jump up and down on the sideline like Mark Sanchez.

A: I didn’t see what you are describing so I don’t know if you are talking about him possibly communicating with the coaches in the pressbox. If any other readers saw this incident, let me know.

  1. Seriously, mp3 player………….Yeah right, he was rocking out to Lady Gaga. He was communicating with the press box.

  2. Barkley did have an ear piece in one ear, but it looked to be a link to the press box so he could follow the play calling since he was checking his wristband sometimes against what he was hearing.

  3. If Barkley keeps playing the way he did against Cal, give him a DVD player and a La-Z-boy on the sideline. Something’s working.

  4. You can add the other qb Wittek from Mater Dei plus Kent Turene (lb), the place kicker Hedari, long snapper from Arizona, not sure if the wideout from U. of Miami considered the tenth EE so that leaves three or four spots open.
