Answer Wednesday!

That was not a misprint earlier when we mentioned the Brennan Carroll item.

You mentioned previously that you were surprised how quickly the NCAA moved on Cam Newton. If Auburn beats Oregon and TCU beats Wisconsin, would you rank TCU over Auburn based on the facts that TCU may be a better team and that Auburn may lose its title if Cam Newton is found ineligible?

A: I’m not sure how I will vote yet. But I don’t like the idea of basing my vote on what might happen a couple years from now. I can understand if someone did not vote for Cam Newton for an individual award but I’m not sure if I would want to punish his entire team for something that might not even happen down the road. It’s the same as stripping USC of its national title for the Reggie Bush infractions. It wasn’t the fault of the other 84 scholarship players.

Are you surprised that USC cannot attract LB’s of any quality?

A: Yes, I am very surprised. I don’t understand why the top linebacker prospects in the country would not want to come to USC and perhaps start right away. Is probation the reason? Maybe but the bowl ban only affects one year for incoming freshman. Maybe the staff is not getting on some prospects like they should but they did an impressive job securing Tre Madden before his stock shot up this season.
As much as linebacker perplexes me, I find the offensive line situation dire at the moment. With Tyron Smith and Kris O’Dowd leaving and Mike Reardon thinking of not playing next season, it’s going to be a patchwork line at best.

  1. As long as Graf, Martinez, Kalil, Holmes, Coleman, Di Poalo and Markowitz stay healthy, the OL should be fine, right?

  2. Could be they are not impressed with Monte Kiffin for what he has accomplished these past two years! Just a guess…

  3. Agree with Scott on this one. I’m also perplexed by the LBs not wanting to come here given the strong tradition that we have at that position and fact that our coaches have had success grooming some of the best NFL players at that position. Really don’t understand why a blue chipper wouldn’t want to come here and in all likelihood have the opportunity to start for 3 – 4 years. Also doesn’t make sense that sanctions are the reason since we continue to have success recruiting other positions (notwithstanding the O-line situation).

  4. Every top recruit wants to play in the NFL, and what better place than for Monte who is greatly respected in the league.

  5. Now here’s a scoop: Pete is paying Golden who in turn is paying Brennen. It now all makes sense.

  6. Agree. Not just saying this because I love SC, but of all the positions, I would think OL-men and linebackers would love to play here. It’s crazy to think of all the players SC put in the pros from those positions.

My guess, and I’m not trying to be funny.. Lot’s of these kids get improper benefits. Whether an agent or some outside source. With the lockdown on SC right now, I don’t doubt the top recruits would rather go elsewhere. (ie – Seantrell Henderson)
