There are many reasons for John Morton to go to the 49ers. He is going to the NFL. He is reunited with Jim Harbaugh.
But here is another from any coaches’ perspective: The move means Morton has job security for 2-3 years. He might see USC as a place where he (and everyone else) could be on the hot seat next season and looking for a job in 12 months. That is always in the back of coaches’ minds.
