The Grapevine

We hear Lane Kiffin is telling friends the NCAA is trying to pin a major violation on him for failing to monitor the program at Tennessee. The question is what support will he get from Tennessee with the NCAA regarding the charge? Less than zero.

  1. Discovering Kiffin’s committed past violations is like finding vaginal herpes on a Santa Monica hooker.

  2. If this happens, might it have implications for the SC program that force some tough coaching staff decisions sooner rather than later?

  3. It does seem rather convenient that a school would throw an ex-coach they hate under the bus.

  4. And would SC be off the hook if Pete Carroll had gone to another school instead of the NFL? Then the NCAA would have just penalized Pete, and not SC?

  5. The lack of institutional control is pinned against the school, not the coach. If UT is savvy, it will defend Kiffen regardless, because his alleged violations are the school’s violations. If UT is petty, then it will throw Kiffen and the school under the bus.

Moreover, if the NCAA issued a “show cause” order against Kiffen (like it did against McNair), then how is USC supposed to respond?

  6. Who is “We”? Is there a mouse in your pocket?
And “friends”? I doubt any “friends” would tell you anything. So basically this is rumor.

  7. I just love the timing of this–right after NSD, where Kiffin landed a lot of talent. I wonder how much fury the NCAA has now that they realize their unjust punishments were not enough to dissuade recruits from coming to SC. Now I see why these investigations take so long. Next up, Ed O.

  8. The Tennessee group is so off they would accept any NCAA penalties if they could take Kiffin down in any manner.

  9. Through the “grapevine”. Scott, this is all over the Internet after an article on Fanhouse! And, did the NCAA provide info for that article? No. The sources all came from UTenn. So, should we be any surprised that UTenn, who is being investigated in 3 sports and could be facing the Lack of Institutional Control charge, would leak info on the story implicating Lane and Ed? No.

UTenn and AD Mike Hamilton are on the hot seat here. If Kiffin gets hit because a few hostesses from a decades old organization attended the HS football games of COMMITTED recruits, then the NCAA is even more corrupt than I already believe them to be.

  10. so, again folks; this sounds like embittered, whining UT fans, still holding a grudge against Kiffin for leaving their beloved program. Seems they still love the old man who was their previous coach, yet he was “releived of his duty” for not putting together a winning program…. which by the way, includes being A-OK with the Orange Crush, ort whatever the hell UT calls the “girls club”.

  11. I will start by stating I am a BRUIN fan, but if the NCAA came down hard on Kiffin for past violations would Hayden let him go? I think he might see it as an opportunity to hire his own guy maybe even an SC guy. I know Kiffin and Orge can recruit like hell but I do not think Kiffin is a very good coach

  12. I’m not sure what would happen if the NCAA came down hard on Kiffin. Would Haden fire him? I don’t know about that. I think it would depend on the 1) severity of the sanctions 2) whether they could fire him “with cause” and 3) the availability of a top quality replacement. But firing him would bring more instability to the program and undoubtedly cause some players to leave. I don’t see Haden firing Kiffin for violations that USC and the NCAA knew about before he was hired at USC. Then again, I didn’t think the NCAA was going to resurrect this stupid claim.

  13. How can the NCAA come down hard on a coach and not a school? Especially when the coach is at another school? If any violations focused on Kiffin happen, and as of now I doubt they do, then that shows the hypocrisy and two-sidedness of the NCAA.

  14. Tommy Flanagan just called to say that Lane was also in charge of the other two sports at Tennessee and is responsible for the transgressions.

  15. dtown, Haden was on the sub-committee of the USC BoT who led the search and directed Garrett to hire Kiffin in the first place. It is a misconception that Kiffin is not Haden’s “guy”.

  16. poor, dumb Southern Cal, trying to act respectable while on probation, but, like the Lindsay Lohan of the sports world, they keep stumbling into one jam after another!!

trOXans just can’t avoid trouble!!! geez Louise, look at Griffin, Sanchez, Kiff, da Agin’ Cajun, Mustain…and that was just in the last week!!!!

i am calling it right here: Lindsay Lohan’s career gets back on track before the trOXans can claim a BCS title!!

    AUUUUUUUUU-WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

  17. Lindsay Lohan becomes Secretary General of the United Nations before UCLA wins a conference title in football.

  18. That is some sugar sweeeeet postin’, C-Buck!!! Lindsay Lohan!!! ROFLMAOUICBASMP!!!!!

the Cadre comes on this blog to chew bubble gum and kick a$$!!! (and to help the trOXans face reality) and we’re AAAAAAAAAALL out of bubble gum!!!!!!

    AUUUUUUUUU-WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

  19. Son,
Don’t give up your day job. The only ones laughing at your stuff are “you”. Yoda and W.E.B. should post in soon right?

  20. Was RN sanctioned in any way for the 51 NCAA rules violations committed during his time at Colorado before he went to Washington? Or for that matter, any other HC who got their school in trouble, and moved on?

  21. Brother Jethro, how many times must I say it? I have resigned from the Cadre and am now a die-hard USC fan. Through the grace of the Lord, the scales fell from my eyes and I could see that the members of the so-called Cadre are nothing but gamblers, whoremasters, a candy manufacturer, and a purported Transylvanian “Count” who I think is probably just an Armenian who went to Glendale City College.

    Praise the Lord!

  22. W.E.B.

How do you feel about the fact that UCLA’s most succesful football coach – the one that won their whopping one-half of a national championship died in a cheap hotel room with a hooker just weeks before the season was about to start?

  23. Oh, Sybil, you forgot to take your meds. Do we need to use the blue and yellow restraints again?

  24. Brother Jethro, that sounds like one sad cautionary tale. Yet another reason to thank God for leading me away from the Cadre and toward the Greater True Light.

Take heed, Cadre! “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.” Colossians 3:5.

  25. You just want that one to go away don’t you Chuck. It is, after all, Westwood’s “dirty little secret”
