Morning Buzz
What does USC need to do to make the NCAA Tournament?
Sweep the Washington schools and then make at least the finals of the Pac-10 Tournament. Or can the Trojans afford a split this weekend if they make the finals of the Pac-10?
Sendek Endorses USC
Arizona State coach Herb Sendek endorsed USC’s NCAA Tournament hopes Saturday night.
“They are certainly good enough to be an NCAA team,” Sendek said. “The Pac-10 doesn’t get enough credit and they aren’t getting enough credit.”
Vucevic On NBA
USC forward Nikola Vucevic on whether he will return next season:
““I haven’t given thought to it yet. After the season, I’ll talk to Coach (O’Neill) and my family.”
USC 62, Arizona State 46
It’s an easy victory for the Trojans, who remain in sole possession of fourth place in the Pac-10. Arizona State shot 31 percent. Nikola Vucevic led USC with 20 points and 10 rebounds in what might be his final home ame. Alex Stepheson added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Football School
I immediately grew suspicious when I saw Lane Kiffin at today’s basketball game. Kiffin cares about USC basketball about as much as doing televised press conferences.
But then I walked into a hallway outside Galen Center and knew what was going on. The Nike football clinic is today and former Oregon coach Mike Bellotti, former USC coach John Robinson and Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino are all wandering about. Monte Kiffin is here too. So naturally Lane would be on campus.
`One More Year’
The USC student section chanted, “one more year,” before Nikola Vucevic shot a free throw Saturday against Arizona State. The chant appeared to distract because he missed the free throw before hitting the second one.
Cameron Performs
Tight end Jordan Cameron ran the 40-yard dash in 4.59 seconds, the second-fastest time among tight ends at the NFL Combine.
Morning Buzz
USC center Kris O’Dowd did 31 reps on the benchpress at the NFL Combine, which was the fifth-best mark among all linemen. USC offensive tackle Tyron Smith is skipping workouts today to recover from offseason knee surgery and will work out at USC’s Pro Day on March 30.
Cruz Watch
The USC baseball team lost to No. 22-ranked Rice, 10-7, tonight. The Trojans are now 3-2 overall in the Frank Cruz era.
