If Lane Kiffin needs a reason to beware his morning practice sessions, here’s an example: Marc Tyler said he pulled his hamstring Tuesday because he did not properly stretch his legs.
“I didn’t know we weren’t going to stretch like we usually do,” he said. “I guess they want us to come here earlier and stretch before. I didn’t know they changed it.”
It’s highly unlikely things like stretching will be done as rigorously when they are required to come to Heritage Hall at 5 a.m. compared to, oh, 2 p.m. But it’s a risk Kiffin apparently will take.

  3. I don’t like this change. SC won 7 straight pac-10 titles, back-2-back natl champs, 3 heismans, 6 bcs bowl victoires, 4 Rose Bowl wins, and a 34 game win streak by having practices in the evening. just stick to what was working.

  4. This is idiotic. 18-21 year olds need 9.5-10 hours of sleep per night. It is a physiological proven medical fact. They will do poorly on the field and in class. This is old school stupidity. Football season is enough of a grind as it is, why demoralize the players further? I’m not kidding. Kiffin may lose his team and his job over this.

  5. Is this going to be permanent? Gotta agree with Michael Protos. Not sure 5am is great for kids who are used to staying up until that time. Hope the coaching staff knows what they’re doing.

    At SC I had the hardest time getting proper sleep. First year, in a dorm, and after that in a Frat House, with roommates and guys coming and going at all hours of the day and night.

    Plus, I was not an early riser, which I believe is true of most people under 20 years old.

    Times change and so do bodies, and now I love getting up at 4 a.m. But not back then

  7. Doesn’t seem to have bothered Oregon much the last two years under Kelly. Sweet Jesus, some people will complain about anything.

  8. you guys can’t compare southern cal and Oregon, Eugene is not in the ghetto, southern cal is.

    Oregon players aren’t kept up at night with the ghetto bird circling the neighborhood, nor do they have to deal with the noise that comes with all the drive by shootings and gang activity.
