Answer Thursday!

While pondering the color of USC’s socks, time for some answers.

Any word on the last remaining hoops scholarship? Wouldnt it make more sense for KO to use the scholarship this year to help with depth, rather than save it on an incoming freshmen in 2012 who might not be ready to play for a year or two? Why not another JUCO player or at least a transfer?

A: USC’s looked at some junior college players and decided against using the scholarship. It is still looking at international players. But if not, it will save the scholarship. I’m against giving it out unless it is someone who would be a top 8 player because at this time of the year, it is usually a stretch to find prospects.

What is your take on why the coaches are so set on Kennard at MLB, instead of moving him to the outside or back to DE?

A: I’ve said previously I would play him at strongside linebacker. This tells me the coaches have little faith in anyone on the roster to play middle linebacker. Personally, I think Chris Galippo could handle it and the combo of Galippo in the middile and Kennard at strongside is better than Galippo at weakside and Kennard in the middle. But the staff feels differently.

Do you ever envision a time in the future when Pete Carroll will be celebrated and honored on the USC campus (i.e., a statue in his honor, naming a stadium or building after him, etc.)?

Or will his legacy forever be erased from the USC history books just like the BCS championship he allegedly won?

A: I’m sure one day he will be honored and there will be some sort of tribute, whether the naming of a patio or building or maybe even a bust for him. It will just take awhile. At least after probation is over.

  1. We need someone more athletic than Gallippo to play Mike. In our base D, the Mike needs to both be fast / strong enough to stop the run up the middle, and fluid / athletic enough to cover the deep-middle in passing situations. Based on that, Dk seems like the best choice. But, the real question is whether Gallippo has the instincts to overcome DK’s superior athletic abilities. I’m guessing not.

  2. That being said, it is very important we get this figured out. If the secondary doesn’t have confidence in the Mike’s ability to handle his sh**, their focus drifts over from their own assignments, and we see breakdowns like we did last year.

  3. herh herh herh!

name a patio after Darth Carroll, they will!

    well played, master wolf!

    herh herh herh!

perhaps a bench in the USC Hall of Shame?

(any room left in that hall, i wonder? crowded it is!)

    herh herh herh!

  4. So the bottom line is that the coaches don’t trust Gallipo to play MLB. Why? Lack of talent? Injured back?

  5. galippo has the most experience and knows the mike position the best on the roster. but isn’t the issue with him is that he’s not physical enough, not a strong enough tackler for the position?
