USC’s done just about everything possible since last summer to make nice with the NCAA. President Max Nikias and athletic director Pat Haden made a trip to Indianapolis last fall to show how USC implemented changes in the wake of NCAA penalties.
They also established good relations with NCAA officials in the past eight months. Haden never thought USC’s odds were good for the appeal but made an effort to court the organization.
The NCAA’s also been on a public-relations offensive with its new enforcement officer trying to make rounds with the media. And a couple weeks ago, the media was invited to Indianapolis to handle a mock case and see how the NCAA makes sausage.
All of this led to some hope the NCAA might reduce its penalties.
Nope.
By the way, Notre Dame’s decision to make the USC game its first prime-time telecast since 1990 probably adds fuel to the fire that committee member Missy Conboy, who works for Notre Dame, made sure the Trojans did not face a TV ban (but received nearly every other penalty).

I never knew you were the mouthpiece for Pat Haden, you went to great lengths to criticize the Athletic dept before his arrival. Now you pacify everything the anointed one does.
Face the facts, Pat Haden has ZERO AD experience and it is showing. He gets caught with his pants down time and time again.
1. Return a legitimate earned Heisman trophy
2. returns to Indi to apologize for USCs actions
3. States he can not comment of the Cam Newton or OSU situation
4. Unwilling to make his own hires
He is here for PR purposes and we will suffer the consequences as long as he is leading the AD dept and we have people like you un-objectively excuse his poor judgement.

And prior to Pat Haden and Max Nikias, the previous administration did everything to antagonize that relationship and obstruct the investigation into the Bush Mayo affair.
Do you really believe that the way Pat Haden has extended and ingratiated himself and USC to the NCAA would make up for the many years of Mike Garrett and his arrogance?
The penalties were harsh, but just and I hope that Ohio State and LSU get similarly strict penalties for the misdeeds of their players and coaches.
This ain’t about USC. It’s about cleaning up college athletics…at least the obvious crap that goes around.
