Baseball Wrap

Well, the season ended with a thud as the Trojans lost two of their final three games against Washington State. After being tied for fourth, USC (25-31, 13-14) finished in seventh place in the Pac-10.
Maybe the best thing Frank Cruz did this season was go 2-2 against UCLA. Chad Kreuter was 3-11 against the Bruins.

Halfway Done

It’s hard to believe that with eight commitments, USC is now past the halfway mark of its recruiting class for next season. Those last seven scholarships are going to be very interesting especially with only one official offensive line commitment. Of course, I’ve previously written that USC’s cooled on one of the eight commitments, wide receiver Jordan Payton, so maybe it’s really seven right now.

Baseball Buzz

The season finale just started at Dedeaux Field against Washington State. If USC wins, it will own series victories over six Pac-10 opponents: No. 2 Oregon State, No. 6 Arizona State, No. 11 Stanford, Oregon, Washington and Washington State.

More Track

USC had 19 athletes and two relay teams qualify at this weekend’s NCAA West Regionals for the NCAA championships. Sprinter Bryshon Nellum, who was shot in the leg three years ago, pulled his groin and did not finish his 400-meter heat. If he recovers he might be able to still run in the 4 x 400 relay at the NCAA championships.
