Morning Buzz

With Marc Tyler officially out for the season-opener against Minnesota, it is finally time for Dillon Baxter to seize an opportunity and Lane Kiffin to give Baxter that opportunity. There will be plenty of talk in training camp from Kiffin about D.J. Morgan, Curtis McNeal and the incoming freshmen.
But this is the time to find out if Baxter will reach his potential, especially against an opponent like Minnesota. Baxter was a non-entity in spring until the final scrimmage. So he either needs to use that as a springboard or move on if he doesn’t emerge.

  1. If Dillon Baxter doesn’t take advantage of this Dj morgan or buck allen will take over i believe.

  2. If Dillon Baxter deosn’t step it up this year, his schollie could be used for someone else who can make a difference. I would like for Dillon to shine this year, but it seems that he’s still thinking that this is high school and not Div I ball.

  3. First off, the “incoming freshmen” should be left alone and redshirt.
Coming into SC Baxter was compared to another SD RB. Unfortunately he’s been more like Joe McKnight. Time for him to step up and perform.

  4. ESPN LOS ANGELES REPORTED 2 OR 3 DAYS AGO THAT DILLON BAXTER DIDNT PASS HIS SUMMER CLASSES, HAS BEEN DECLARED ACADEMICALLY INELIGIBLE AND HAS ASKED USC FOR HIS RELEASE. WHY HASN’T THAT BEEN MENTIONED OR REPORTED HERE ?

  5. Well rh4usc it was reported that Steve Dillon asked for his release. Steve Dillon is not Dillon Baxter. A real SC would know what the hell they are talking about. A little research people.

  6. @booty11: But what about Steve “Dillon” Baxter? Is he still on the team?

  7. DJ morgan will win the starting spot. Who cares about recruiting rankings, let the best player win..

Baxter is to be used as a slot receiver and wild cat QB. Let the good times roll!

  8. I don’t feel that comfortable with the RBs right now. DJ Morgan has obviously got some skill, but I am still worried about his knees and injury history. Even Tyler is injury-prone. Dillon Baxter has showed me nothing aside from a few good runs here and there. McNeal is an interesting option, but I do not see him as an every down back. We have nothing but small, shifty backs and no grinder right now. Maybe it will have to fall to Buck Allen.

  9. Good post by Wolf.

Since no backs besides Tyler have much game experience, I’m guessing the passing game will be relied upon more.

It will be interesting to see how much Matt Barkley can do with more attempts and a constant supply of fresh receivers. Minnesota’s secondary could be in for a long day…

  10. Baxter’s problem is that; The Kiffer does not have the play’s, counter plays, play calling ability to set up or recognize the circumstance to utilize his skills effectively. We had better find some big backs for the three yards and cloud of dust offense.

  11. rh4usc….young man, you’ve got a future. I can see that exceptional S.C. education is already paying off. Investigative Journalism at it’s finest!
BTW…when the “caps lock” has been pressed, all letters are capitalized, by pressing the “caps lock” key again, letters return to lower case. Are you related to “lbc” ?
