Time to get into those forum questions.

Isn’t the Kiffin is handling the Markeith Ambles situation rather oddly? He’s not allowed back unless he’s eligible, but he’s back before it’s sure that he is eligible, then he’s gone because they are sure he’s ineligible but it’s not official. Last year Ambles leaves the team after being suspended and then comes back. This spring he misses practice because he’s made to run after missing a lifting session and now he might have screwed up his summer school class. I do believe that USC has other WR’s that actually show up on time, make grades and follow the rules. Isn’t it time for Kiffin to grow a pair and start tossing problems like this kid out of the program? Honestly, I wonder if Kiffin has the maturity to run a top flight football program.

A: Lane Kiffin gave Markeith Ambles more leeway than any other player in the program and it was noticed by others within the program. The reason I can give is that Kiffin brought Ambles to USC, knew Pete Carroll dropped him, and wanted to give him chances because it would look bad if he did not make it. Ambles’ departure makes no impact on the team but the whole saga did give a bit of a black eye to Kiffin in terms of discipline, etc.

Who do you think will be the starting 22 against Minnesota? Please leave the “OR” out of your predictions (e.g., RB – Baxter OR McNeil). Just the top 11 on both sides of the ball. As always, thanks for the forum, Scott.

A: I will list the top 22 in a post within the hour.

Really Scott? You’re gonna take covering USC football and dealing with Coach Sunshine over lifetime UK unemployment, watching the EPL riding the underground, enjoying the English countryside, Abbey Road, Coventry Garden and The Queen? REALLY????????

A: Well, now that you put it that way maybe I need to rethink my decision.

Why is Matt Barkley still throwing interception and making bad decisions? Should Pete Carroll have redshirted him as he did Mark Sanchez? A redshirt year would have allowed Matt Barkley to learn the playbook better and develop more. Andrew Luck redshirted. Matt Barkley still is forcing throws. Can you ask Lane Kiffin if he thinks Matt Barkley not redhsirting hurt development.

A: Lane Kiffin’s noted that past USC quarterbacks were usually in the system 2-3 years before they started. I don’t think Carroll should have redshirted Barkley or could have with the uncertainty that season. But he could have held an honest competition for the job. It was clear he did not want Aaron Corp or Mitch Mustain to be the starting quarterback two years ago. That is what hurt more than anything because he was thrown into the lineup and nothing he did was considered a problem in Carroll’s eyes.

  1. You’re absolutely right, uscfan. They don’t go 9-4. They probably go 5-7 and miss a bowl berth. Corp had no business playing D-1 football with that wet noodle arm of his. That was clear in the UW game. Worst Trojan QB since Van Raphorst.

  2. Simple Common Sense……immediatly after Sanchez announces, tell the Sports World that “Junior Mitch Mustain will be the first string QB for USC begining ahora”.. Prepare Mustain to the best of a coaching staff’s ability, then turn loose the used to be 8-0 SEC True Freshman QB to soundly beat Ohio State and UW, and then go on to lead the 2009 Trojans to an exciting 11-2 season, barring injury.

    Fight On !!!

  3. I have always felt PC screwed Barkley up making him the starter as a freshman. Mustain was a capable qb, he was just always looking over his shoulder because PC showed no confidence in him. Bark hasn’t mentaly recovered yet, he still thinks he has to carry the weight all himself, forcing passes trying to “make it happen”.

  4. Where is this Barkley hype coming from? Surely not 2010.

13 of the 26 TD’s came against Hawaii, Cal, and WSU. This would not be much context if his performances the rest of the year matched SC’s generally strong offensive performances.

Mighty defensive stalwart Minnesota 192 yards, 2 TD, 2 Int.
    Oregon 264 yards, 1 TD, 2 Int.
    ASU 215 yards, 3 TD, 2 Int.
    Arizona 170 yards, 1TD, 1Int.
OSU (half game) 75 yards, 0 TD, 1Int.
    UCLA 198 yards, 1TD, 2 Int.

These mediocre stats would mean less if Barkley had not been surrounded by all stars at wide receiver, O line, running back, and fullback. Two yard passes for fifty yard TD’s, Top Cowboy pick tackle. 7 yards per carry tailback. Johnson and Woods. Maybe only Oregon had the same offensive firepower.

Barkley will play 2011 with the sort of O line most PAC 12 QB’s have to play with. He will be left with only great receivers. His tendency to play better on 1st down than third, 1st half than 2nd, early season than late may have been inexperience but it is pronounced.

USC is teed up to lose 6 games. Utah may start the ball rolling. This Trojan team is much weaker than last year’s. Lane could be gone by midseason. If his last name had been Smith, he would be a Div 2 position coach. Years of running it up on conference foes make the Trojans a juicy target everyone on their schedule will want a piece of. A quality coach would have his work cut out.

Barkley is a slow clumsy athlete with a very strong arm and a history of playing tight under pressure. Let us all hope I am wrong and he has grown into the great QB his arm promised.
He is a great kid and a credit to Trojan football.

  5. Holy Smokes Scott…When half the roster is made up of 4-5 star “CHARACTER ISSUE” types (winky, wink)..Kiffy has to handle those goof ball STUDENT athletes with Kid GLOVES, otherwise..THERE IS NO TEAM! (look what happens to the running back position if Kiffy comes down hard….Baxter, GONE!, Tyler, GONE!, McNeal, GONE!). Let’s cut Kiffy some slack. It’s not Kiffy’s fault if in the past, ENTIRE ROSTER’S didn’t have to deal with Football AND CLASSES,… thanks to the “senora” at the USC North Campus (Trade Tech). Markeith (bone to bone) will always be a Torgan for life in my book! Yup..right up there with those Dr. Seuss Characters, Ting 1 and Ting 2.
    Fit on Torgan!
Strange, but the CURSE began about the same time The Gay Bronze Horse arrived. As Chucker might ask…”Coinky Dink?”

  6. @Stackfire: Shhhhhh! You are telling the dirty little secret about our fair haired Cherub! I also fear the fact opposing defenses will significantly increase the percentage of 1st and 2nd down blitzes to rattle the Cherub. with two rookie freshman guards starting, this could be a huge problem.

I think our record will be 6-6. Now if you will excuse me, I have to go screw the pooch.

  7. Hilarious, NOBS, hilarious. Nice try, BruRob. Anyways, I dont screw the pooch, the pooch screws me. Mono won’t return my calls, what am I gonna to do?

  8. Haha nZerobs, aka JBoy, man, I can’t believe you wastes so much time getting different names to post. What a loser.

  9. Haha, nice try, N0BS.

Mono, where’d you go? You said you were going out for raspberry scones and you never came back, you slut. You are with whore Jboy again aren’t you?
