Answer Friday!

Time to answer some questions on a Friday afternoon.

Q: $uckaFREE:
How many silent commits do we have at the moment and can you say which side of the ball they play on? Thanks.

A: I was told during training camp there are two silent commits at the moment and one on each side of the ball.

Q: Trojan Conquest:
What would you consider to be a successful game against Minnesota? For Barkley? For the defense?

A: I consider a victory to be a success first of all. After that, did Barkley throw interceptions and if he did, in what situations? The defense must show it can stop the run and that it does not wilt as the game progresses. The linebackers must react to situations without being caught out of position like last year. I also think it is critical the offensive line gets off to a good start for confidence purposes.

Q: CWald3:
Hi Scott, can you comment on why Barkley is the PAT holder? It seems like an unnecessary risk of injury. It would be really great for the readers if you could ask Lane Kiffin why this is and why he isn’t using Dillon Baxter a that role that seems so fit for his talents in the Wildcat formation.

A: Kiffin was asked during camp and said he considered it but they were more comfortable with Barkley in the role. I agree it is a big risk. Kiffin likes having Barkley because of the 2-point play threat, obviously by passing. I think the coaches do not trust Baxter in the role because they don’t want a running back making quarterback decisions despite his background.

  1. Kiffin is hoping to redshirt both frosh QBs, so putting them in on PAT duty does not seem like a smart move.

  2. When was the last time anyone saw the holder get injured? Probably safer for Barks to hold field goals than drive to the game.
