Exciting Games

Readers have added some more dramatic games to the list I mentioned earlier. The 2003 and 2004 USC-Cal games. I also think the 1996 USC-UCLA overtime game and 1990 USC-UCLA game deserve to be mentioned too.

  1. The 1967 USC-UCLA is the all-time game. UCLA was #1, USC #4. Gary Beban won the Heisman that year. OJ was a junior and won the Heisman the next year. This had maybe the most famous run of all time by OJ to win the game. USC went on to win the Rose Bowl and the National Title.
And if you’re going with losses, the loss to Jake Plumber and an undefeated ASU in 1996 double overtime. Brad Otton kept complaining to the officials about the crowd noise. Unbelieveable that at that time it was against the rules for the crowd to be too loud that the offense couldn’t hear the signals. Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFhrICTe5pY

  2. 1981 Oklahoma game and the N.D. game overtime that ended the streak in 1996 were both also epic, rockin’ Coliseum games. (The Fresno State game belongs in there too, for pure entertainment value.)
