Here are the grades from Saturday’s triple-overtime thriller.

RESULT: No. 4 STANFORD 56, No. 20 USC 48
RECORD: 6-2, 3-2
WEEK 8 GPA: C+

QUARTERBACK

Matt Barkley wasn’t bad. He just wasn’t Andrew Luck.

B-

RUNNING BACKS

Curtis McNeal’s fumble doesn’t diminish his career night.

B+

WIDE RECEIVERS

Robert Woods looked off even before he wasted those final nine seconds.

B

OFFENSIVE LINE

No sacks and gave McNeal some nice holes.

B

DEFENSIVE LINE

Nice debut for J.R. Tavai and Devon Kennard recorded first sack of season.

B-

LINEBACKERS

Dion Bailey with another game-high 13 tackles but unit also faltered late.

C+

DEFENSIVE BACKS

T.J. McDonald and Jawanza Starling with key penalties late in the game.

C

SPECIAL TEAMS

Kicker Andre Heidari might be the most consistent player on the team.

B

COACHING

USC in driver’s seat with 9 seconds left. Why blame last play on officials?

    i am glad you also noticed Gallupo’s choke job!! is it worse to be a quitter or choker? well, in my opinion, Gallupo did both Saturday!! ugh, nothing worse than a big mouthed hypocrite…we already had Chief Justice LJ to contend with but Gallupo is a bigger mouthed hypocrite than even LJ!!!

    Head scratching on some of these grades Scott. Had SC won – essentially had one or two plays gone differently – would any of the units received an A or A-?

    The O-Line deserves better Scott, come on. That grade is as gimmicky as your Boise State vote. And did Luck REALLY play that much better than Barkley – with the pick 6, with the stupid pass to Owosu that gave him a concussion? Barkley doesn’t have the same tools as Luck, but last I checked he had them moving pretty well in all 3 OTs as well. And the grade for Woods is generous. He looked uncomfortable all game, even though the refs let Standford get away two PIs to start the game.

    D-Line played outstanding, even though final score doesn’t speak to that. That will be the best O-Line they see all year, and they outplayed them for the most part.

    Gilly, your post makes no sense without proper punctuation, but I wouldn’t expect an SC guy to understand that. And a C+ for Lane is fair. He is perhaps the worst clock manager of all time.

    Sorry that it was still confusing for you to read. The punctuation was not that important, based on the ease of comprehension required to read that simple statement.
    Guessing that your aclu edumikashun prevented that. However I’ll try to make it a little easier for even you to understand…
    Scott, is it too early to ask you if the birth of spudjones was the signature loss in the lives of his mom and suspected father, aka bRUINrob?
