Best WR?

USC’s experienced about a near-perfect two weeks with wins over then No. 4-ranked Oregon and crosstown rival UCLA. So there was an odd moment today when Trojans coach Lane Kiffin decided to proclaim Robert Woods the “second-best receiver on the team.”
There is nothing wrong with Kiffin believing Marqise Lee is the best receiver on the team but considering Woods needs ankle surgery, has a bad shoulder and Kiffin said he considered holding him out of the Oregon game, it was a disrespectful way to send the sophomore to the Biletnikoff Award ceremony next month.
Oh, and Woods also set a Pac-12 single-season record for receptions despite those injuries.
But in Kiffin’s world, what’s new is always better. So a freshman is better than sophomore, a sophomore better than a junior, etc.

  1. It’s Kiffin. It was sarcastic. Everyone knows that Lee gets to make the awesome plays because defenses have to respect Woods. And Woods still gets to make a lot of awesome plays.

For defenses, it’s pick your poison. I think I’d choose Marqise running over me and out-physicalling me over Woods doing it. They’re about the same except Woods has an extra swim through and run over gear.

  2. Man. Even for me, that was cold, Kiff.

Kid has played his guts out, risking further injury and still sets the Pac12 record and Kiff goes and throws him off the cliff?

  3. Marqise Lee is clearly the best receiver on the team. Why is this a surprise or how is this even insulting to Robert Woods? Lee is probably one of the top 3 receivers in college football (along with Justin Blackmon and Ryan Broyles). Robert Woods is probably the fourth best WR in college football.

  4. What’s new is better? Just like Kiffin prefers to start the freshman QB over the junior QB, right? Oops, there went Scott’s brilliant argument, down the toilet bowl that is his journalistic ineptness.

  5. Scott, of all the people to call the kettle black. Dude, you are the worst.

Zero, aka SlobDusky, your act is old, but flattering that you want to be ME.

  6. RoWoods is amazing, but Lee is just now starting to learn to run the routes Woody does. Based on pure upside, Marqise the “magic man” has the most.

This is no knock on Woody, he is a savior to the program and an absolute stud. I hope he wins multiple year end awards. Maybe Woody uses this as motivation in the off-season to not lose his alpha dog role…

  7. Scotty’s World: Social promotion, Galippo should start as he is a senior, I have been at the paper for a long time now it is my turn to win the Pullitzer. Kiffen tells it like it is. The Team knows it and trusts him. If you don’t think Lee outplayed Woods the last few games you are blind. Woods was injured, he will heal and come back better than ever. Scotty wants everyone happy, keeping score is unfair.

  8. Kiffin is playing Scottie like a drum. You think Woods is going to feel disrespected when Lee draws some of the double teams and #1 coverages next season? Other writers will print this quote once, but only one will be deceived into repeating it all offseason. Might as well start calling Wolf Kiffin’s major tool for disseminating misinformation to the media. LMAO!
