Former USC offensive tackle Tyron Smith attended last night’s game. He and Matt Kalil could have been the starting tackles against UCLA if Smith returned for his senior year. A former NFL coach said after the game he thought Kalil would be drafted higher than Matt Barkley if both turned pro this year.

“I haven’t given up (on convincing Matt Barkley to return next year),” Lane Kiffin said. “Unless he decides to do something to be a special Trojan. Does he want to do something unique?”

Special Scene

Lane Kiffin said tonight that USC seniors usually talk about their memories and career on the Friday night before the last home game. But this year’s seniors wanted to wait until after Saturday’s game because they did not want to alter their preparation for any game this season.
That caused an especially long post-game meeting in the locker room and USC players were singing the fight song while Matt Barkley, Robert Woods, T.J. McDonald and Marqise Lee met the media.
“It gives me chills,” Barkley said of hearing Fight On.

`They Felt Disrespected’

Lane Kiffin said USC players took Rick Neuheisel’s comment the gap had closed personally.
“It’s a strong statement to make. It was talked about a lot and not by me. They felt disrespected.”
