Kiffin On Perry

Here’s Lane Kiffin’s statement on defensive end Nick Perry’s decision to go pro.
“We counseled Nick throughout his decision-making process and we stand behind him on this decision. His career progression at USC continued climbing to a point where he was ready to make the jump to the NFL.
“He was an awesome pass rushing (sic) for us and he created havoc throughout the Pac-12 this year in a league that featured many of the nation’s most dangerous passing offenses. He will be a valued addition to any NFL team and should be an attractive choice in the upcoming draft.
“We value Nick’s time and efforts at USC and appreciate the standard he set for the defensive linemen who will follow him here. We wish him much future success and know he’ll be another great Trojan in the NFL.”

  1. Carroll would have been all pissed off at him, even though he’ll probably be drafted by the Jets and at least make the conference championship game every season of his career.

  2. Congratulations to Nick Perry. He made the right choice to leave. He played well this season and he’s a gifted athlete. He’ll perform well at the combine, which rewards freakish athletes and he’ll probably be gone by the end of the 2nd round. The reality is that he needed to capitalize on this good season and coming back for another was too risky as he is injury prone.

  3. Leading the conference in sacks and being able for the first time in his Trojan career, to finish a season relatively injury free, it was a very strategic time for him to take advantage of his current status for a successful position in the draft.
Thanks for everything Nick, you played great for us..
    Fight On

  4. Kiffin is a real comedian, we stand behind him on his way out the door is what he really means. Unless a 1st rounder dumb move on his part. One real good year and everyone thinks they are the top banana. How many AA teams did he make at season’s end on the 1st or 2nd team.

  5. Most of these kids who were good enough in high school to obtain a scholarship at one of the 120 or so top football colleges, believe they will one day get a big pro contract.

Well, the math is this: 120 colleges times 80 or 85 scholarships, or about 10,000 footballers are eligible for perhaps 60 (2 rounds) paying pro contracts. Thus, the odds are approximately 1 in 150 that a kid will ever see a dime from his play.

Them’s not good odds. Better go and study, young man.

  6. Lawyer John, hopefully Nick can return in the off season to finish up his degree. If he doesn’t make it in the pros the Trojan Family will take care of him.

  7. Nick, Duck fans thank you and support your decision

you probably don’t want to be around next year for payback time anyway
