Jim Mora Likes Southern Cal

New UCLA coach Jim Mora spoke to reporters before the Bruins game with Illinois and consistently referred to USC as “Southern Cal.”
Asked about USC, Mora said, “My concern is not Southern Cal. It’s UCLA.”
Mora’s name for USC might be understandable if he did not attend Washington.
But if it’s Southern Cal, then I will not need to refer to him as Jim L. Mora.

  1. Yup. That should be enough bulletin board material needed to drop 50 on them again next year.

This Kraft Feed Me Bowl is painful. I laughed at some of the projected scores, but I think 2-2 may be too generous.

  2. Fucla looks like a first year Pop Warner team. Bet Coach Lessa wishes he’d thought about it first.

  3. Maybe it’s just me but this whole “let’s not refer to us as Southern Cal” thing is kind of dumb. I remember having a sweatshirt that I bought when I was a student (I bought it in 1999) that said Southern Cal in cursive on the front. I bought it from Pertusati. They started this whole banishment of “Southern Cal” sometime after I graduated. Let’s not get all tangled up about it.

  4. Not that “Southern Cal” offends anyone but Bucket is going to get a woody when he hears this.

  5. If I recall correctly the bookstore still produces one or two “Southern Cal” items, apparently to prevent others from seizing the trademark. So who cares?

But in the spirit of reciprocity is it more proper to refer to the kids in Westwood as Los Angeles State Normal School, or as UC Southern Branch?

‘Cause thats what I call them, so, uh, yeah.

  6. HAWR-HAWR!!!!

    SWEEEEEET-SCOOOOOOPIN’ WOLFMAN!!!!

yup, it’s obvious the term Southern CAL doesn’t bother anyone!! in fact, a dozen trOXans immediately posted to prove it!!!

und for the hundeff time, if “Southern Cal” if good enought for Kiff to use (like he did in his first presser), then it’s good enough for the Nabobs, Dummies and Bullies!!!!

oh, i am tingly ALL OVER!!!!

  7. UCLA: Worst bowl team in NCAA history. Congratulations guys… 6-8… it’s gonna be GREAT!!!
    AUUUUUUUUUU-WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. It’s 5:07pm. If you really want to laugh, turn on 570AM and listen to bRuin Talk. Hilarious. All those ignorant bRuin fans calling in using “anyways” and “him & me”. How STUPID are these people. I’m sure one of them was SlobDusky. One jack@$$ said he doesn’t know on SC gets all the great athletes “legally or illegally”. What a PUTZ. Man UP bRuin fans….you program SUCKS.

  9. HAWR-HAWR!!! the trOXans, on multi-year probation are reduced to following Bruins games with FERVOR!!!

look, dummies, a football game is made up of two halves. well, guess what??? won the first half!!!! and it was sugar sweeeet!!!

WE ARE THE DEFENDING PAC12 SOUTH CHAMPS!!!!

and the PEGEANTY of the BOWL GAME was so spectacular i got ALL TINGLY!!!!

and even though we are the South CHAMPS, we are upgrading with new coaching !!! oh the RICH getting RICHER!!!!

  10. Ah, yes, what makes a bRuin tingly!
The loss and a 6-8 season is all so tingly in westwood.
Don’t you just love it, the bRuins actually lost 2 games today alone, in their toilet bowel game in SF as well as their b/ball game in Berkeley.
    Tingly, tingly, tingly.
A new low, even for the westwooders.
The monopoly is now only still on, it is on more than ever.
Said goodnight, Rick, the party is over, and Jimmy L ain’t gonna make it any better.
Until you fire DG and BH, your athletic dept is pure jockstrap, but you will be the last to realize it.

  11. Is SC having two names, SC and Southern Cal, a little like me having two names with my wife: Sweetie and Huggy Bear.

    “Frankly, I don’t give a [darn].”

  12. I can think of many mean-spirited names the ruins have for us, Southern Cal is not one of them. Remember when the card stunts would spell out “SoCal”?

  13. S-O-Uthern C-A-L-Ifornia…….Southernnnnn Califorrrrrnia!!!

That’s how I remember the spell out during games…..

  14. Okay, let’s pretend that ‘Southern Cal” actually offends somebody.
Is it a good idea for an incoming UCLA coach to start off directly challenging USC?
I recall someone trying that not too long ago and things didn’t turn out so well for him.

  15. Do you really think he was calling out SC by saying Southern Cal? Yes…I am a Bruin, but I have never heard of Southern Cal being derogatory, nor do I think he was saying anything other than he is only worrying about UCLA because he has a huge job trying to turn the program around. It’s a mess and he has plenty of other things to worry about than what he calls the Trojans. It’s really that simple.
