  1. You were, you are, you always will be… a moron.

Scooter Wolf, Bruin Rob ain’t got nothin’ on you!

  2. My favorite part of the story: “I thought Oklahoma State played a better overall schedule than Alabama and deserved a share of the title if LSU lost,” Wolf said in an email.

This coming from a man who consistently ranks teams with the easiest schedules higher on his preseason ballot, claiming their easy schedule makes it more likely that they will finish with a better record. Wait, what? Is a team supposed to be rewarded for a tough schedule or punished? Or do you just see which way the wind is blowing and vote the opposite way? To quote Kobe Bean Bryant, “Someone didn’t get enough hugs from his mom when he was a child.”

  3. Here is why I would not vote Oklahoma St. #1: I dont think the #1 team in the country would lose to Iowa St, no matter what.

  4. Just like a team who almost gets fifty dropped on them by Arizona State shouldn’t be anywhere near the Top 25, this year or next year!

  5. Hmmm…so a team that goes 10-2, wins AT Oregon, has one of the top rushing defenses, and has a dynamic offense should not even be in the top 25?
You give true merit to the saying “Better to remain silent and be thought the fool than to speak out and remove all doubt”

    Good job Bill

  6. The only one-loss conference champion from a power conference was Okalahoma State. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, the Crimson Tide narrowly edged out Oklahoma State in the final BCS standings, despite playing a slightly (and slightly should be emphasized) weaker schedule. Oklahoma States narrow win against Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl, however, was not nearly as impressive as Alabamas suffocating shut-out of Louisiana State in the NCG.

In the good old days, we would have had #1 LSU vs. #4 Stanford in the Sugar Bowl, #3 Oklahoma State (Big 8) vs. #2 Alabama in the Orange Bowl, #6 Oregon vs. #9 Wisconsin in the Orange Bowl, and #7 Arkansas (SWC) vs. #13 Michigan in the Cotton Bowl.

  7. “I voted Okl St #1 so I could get my name in the article” Scott, you really are a putz.

  8. Hey NJ, in the Good Old Days, Stanford (or Oregon) would have been playing Wisconsin in the ROSE BOWL.

I would have to say that if Bama had beat LSU 21-0 in their first meeting, Bama would have been #1 and OK ST would have been 2. LSU would have been playing in Orange Bowl with Stanford.

If you look at the SEC, it is actually not that tough of a schedule, with only perhaps 4 teams of BCS bowl capability. The rest are mediocre at best.

Scott, ya just cannot defend YOUR ballot. What a let down, I really thought we had made some headway educating you this season.

  9. Why even bother having the BCS game if you don’t accept the winner as #1? Then lets go back to the old pre-1998 bowl system and have the writers and coaches each pick a champ and the schools can each print up their “We’re #1” shirts.

  10. The reason I do it is so I can get my name in the paper. I can’t write, analyze football, so what do I have left? My only joy in life is writing garbage to flame USC so Ruin nerds will like me and making outrageous ranking so people will interview me. Hopefully some day I’ll bag one of those cheerleaders and get rid of my inflatable doll.

  11. @gotroy: The AP poll is not part of the BCS. It is an independent poll. The BCS initially included the AP poll, but the AP told the BCS to drop its poll in 2004. As such, its voters are not bound in any way to using the BCS game selections as a guide to their votes. The outcomes of such games obviously influence things, but if a team like Ok. State is left out in the cold, they have to figure out where to slot that team.

Also, OK State’s loss came the week that one of their players died. If you watch the game, “flat” didn’t even start to describe how they came out. I can be convinced that that is a better explanation for a loss than LSU’s loss to Alabama or Alabama’s loss to LSU.

Scott’s explanation is actually spot on and how the other AP voters ought to be at least thinking. Seth Emerson’s explanation is gold. Seriously, if you want to see the BCS put out to pasture, one of the best things you can hope for is that the AP poll stay relevant and that it inject controversy, especially after all the arbitrary bowl matchups are played.

  12. Having watched both Okie State and Bama during the season, there is no way that the Cowpokes would be within three touchdowns of Bama. Okie’s defense was beyond pitiful, and while their offense was bona fide, they would not have done much against this aggressive Bama defense. Bama on the other hand, would have been able to run and throw at will on Okie.

Seriously, the game would not have been close.

  13. i agree with the ultimate decision that wolf made to make his own vote – not blindly following the bcs sham – but not for the stated reason. that reason seemed to be he thought ok state was better than alabama based on schedule.

i think a bcs protest vote is a good, conscientious one. it has to be abolished.

  14. Bosco, Oklahoma State University womens basketball coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna were killed when the single-engine plane they were riding in during a recruiting trip crashed near a wildlife management area in central Arkansas. I mean it’s sad but its no excuse. I watched that Iowa State game and even though the Cowboys got hometowned on the field goal call they still sucked the whole game. They aren’t #1.

  15. I stand corrected on the death. I watched the game too. They weren’t the same explosive team. They were just flat.

I still say you absolutely can’t fault Emerson’s explanation though. The AP does not do anything to pick the BCS pairings.
