What are your thoughts on Buck Allen? Can he be the big “power” back next year that Marc Tyler was this year?

A: I find Allen to be a mystery. He wasn’t given a lot to do this season because he joined late and then simply got lost behind the other tailbacks and never really did much to make an impression. That is why I’m hesitant to say he can play a major role next season.

I fear I may be belaboring this and you answered my question re: Farmer in the previous forum but I’m trying to unserstand what someone like you, who has seen him at least workout a ton, thinks about him. Is he good enough to make the same impact of a Robert Woods or Marquis Lee as a receiver or at tailback?

A: I think he can be a spot tailback who plays in situations but I don’t see him as a full-time or even part-time back. Especially since he doesn’t want to play tailback. I do think he can be a good wide receiver and with Brice Butler and Kyle Prater leaving, could probably see significant time as the No. 3 receiver. But will Lane Kiffin let him do it?

  1. But in a bold move, Kiff will line up Farmer in the TB spot, let him run wheel routes to score 90 yard TD’s and Wolf will give Kiff a ‘D’ for failing to define whether or not Farmer is a TB or a WR….

Wolf you might want to quit your day job, with player analysis like this, who needs Todd McShay? Can you imagine Wolf vs. Kiper on the Mothership?

  2. I’d like to see USC bring in a true SE. Robert Woods (6-1, 180) has started at SE for the past two years but he is not a prototypical split end. He’s a great WR but he’s gotten beat up and his production declined a bit as the past two seasons wore on. As per Klein George Farmer is going to play WR this year, but at 6-1, 205, hes built more like a TB/SB than a SE, no? Darreus Rogers (6-2, 190) is an inch or two taller than USCs other receivers, but hes still not the prototypical SE that Dwayne Jarrett (6-5, 210), Patrick Turner (6-5, 220), and Mike Williams were (6-5, 230). Unfortunately, David Ausberry (6-4, 235), Bryce Butler (6-4, 195), and Kyle Prater (6-5, 215) never performed up to expectations. Dorial Green-Beckham (6-6, 220) is this years most coveted SE, but he is reportedly interested in staying closer to his home in Missouri. The next most intriguing WR on the boards appears to be Deontay Greenberry (6-3, 180) at Washington Union in Fresno. He committed to Notre Dame back in May and visited in October, but he later visited Arizona State and USC in December, and he is still considering USC. IS USC trying to flip him?
