Answer Tuesday!

In this segment, wide receiver depth is still an issue and the tailback situation.

So whats the situation at reciever now? Prater appears to be leaving. Butler appeared to be leaving but is acting like he is staying. Farmer is being listed as a tailback “for now”. That leaves Flournoy and Blackwell. Are we counting on huge contributions from the freshmen? i.e. Rogers and possibly Agholar. Does this mean Brice is coming back?

A: I touched on tihs yesterday but I think it is worth bringing up again simply because USC currently looks shorthanded at receiver in terms of having enough for practices when you consider Robert Woods and/or Marqise Lee will probably need days off. George Farmer is back at wide receiver. Then there’s De’von Flournoy (never a coaches’ favorite), Victor Blackwell and Darreus Rogers at the moment. USC could sign another receiver but then it robs another position under the 15-scholarship limit.
If Brice Butler or Kyle Prater stayed it would have helped. Both leaving creates a potential problem.

After the sanctions were imposed, has any former USC player that transfered to another school done or contributed anything (other than Jarvis Jones this year at Georgia)? Seems like all that leave end up being a bust elsewhere (excluding Jones).

A: Malik Jackson’s done well at Tennessee. I think he led the Volunteers in sacks and is the one player who was wise to leave the program. Otherwise, your basic premise is correct.

Even though he is committed to Oregon, do you see USC making a late push to recruit running back Byron Marshall from San Jose? Carlisle’s departure obviously leaves a hole.

A: I’ve heard he is locked up to Oregon. The best hope at this point might be Scottsdale, Ariz. tailback D.J. Foster who is also looking at Arizona State and Cal.
