Recruiting Question

Was Lane Kiffin smart to save 3 scholarships for the midyear or should he have given them out this week?

  1. I am more than OK with the recruiting class. I did not want to be in a position where a kid could lose a scholarship without a good reason.

I think it is fair under sanctions that a player who becomes academically ineligible loses their scholarship. I don’t think it is OK to take a scholarship players scholarship just because he isn’t good enough. I think that not renewing a scholarship that was given to a walkon is Ok, but borderline — only do if necessary.

So you recruit 15 and if you fall short, it is expected and scholarship planning works out. Good planning by the coaching staff. This guy is not the personality that Pete was but he is much more detailed.

  2. Was the Dailynews.com foolish to hire Scott Wolf?

Was the Dailynews.com stupid to hire Scott Wolf?

  3. Good points raised by TomR1: It is wise to respect those kids already on scholarship. Pull their scholies and what effect does that have on the rest of the team?

And this is a unique course Kiffin and his crew are on, balancing needs with a limited number of available personnel. It seems he is doing pretty well from where I am standing

As for Wolf, how many of us would want his job– begging for info and hoping egotistical coaches and players will give him the time of day. He is not great, is not a Gold, but he is o.k.

  4. LJ –

Michael Lev and Scott Wolf have similar jobs. Lev does a great job. Wolf does not. To some degress, everyone has a job with challenges. I can honestly say that if anyone who worked for me was as bad at their job as Wolf is at his, they would be out of work very quickly.

That’s not being heartless or cruel, and its not a reflection on their character. Some people need to find alternative employment or just a change. There are plenty of talented, hard-working people that could do Wolf’s job far better.

  5. Scoop…San Diego Chargers: We have learned that USC linebackers coach Joe Barry has accepted a position with the Chargers. More to come…

  6. Joe Barry to the San Diego Chargers. Via Michael Lev. Scott sure is on top of “inside” info

  7. Smart. Use them when they will need them. Why bring in a 3 more freshman that would probably RS and cut loose 3 existing players.

  8. I just got back from the Failing center, where the UCLA men’s Volleyball swept SUC on their home court…rudest effing fans around, after the match, as I was walking out, an old SUC troll is poking me on my back to get out of his way, after poking 3 times he finally said “excuse me” as he couldn’t leave the arena fast enough…nothing new with SUC fans, the rudest fans ever…I’m glad we kicked some condom ass!! Go Bruins!!!

  9. Son, quit lying to these mighty Trojans you dipshit!
I told you to bring some rolls of toilet paper and some paper towels home with you after janitorializing the beautiful Galen Center. Where the hell is it you nincompoop?

  10. Bruin Rob,
Your punk ass fans were obnoxious at Galen Ctr. as usual. The Security Staff had to come over and lay the law down while later escorting one jerk out the door. The Trojan gave you set one within two set pts. of victory only to fall apart. This match really has little bearing with the conference tournament providing the two teams from out west to go to the final four.

  11. I’m glad he didn’t settle for 2 stars players after going 0-3 on Murphy, Peat and Shittu.

  12. Great job by Kiffin and staff! We got quality kids .. athletically and in character. I love that we get to keep more current kids on scholarship, AND bring in more kids next year. Thanks coaches!

  13. @TrojSteve, you were there? Wow, amazing! You mean to tell there is actually a USC fan that actually cares about other team sports besides football? And no freaking are the UCLA more rude that USC’s.

  15. @bRuinSLOB: shut the hell up already! why the hell would SC need a running back when they’re returning Curtis McNeal (who rushed for over 1,000 yards)… and DJ Morgan who gained plenty of game experience last season? This isn’t Kevin Princess we’re talking about; our players don’t bitch n moan like fucla’s pansies.
    and a DT? uhhhhh….
SC’s leading tacklers were 2 freshman linebackers, they return all-conference Nickell Robey, All-American TJ McDonald etc etc etc. LOL
No, no, no, you’re right, SC will definitely suck… according to SCOUT.COM……
    bahahahahahaha

    mediocre on though, ucla
