  1. Can you please comment on Sammy Knight, and why he may have been passed over for the full-time secondary coach. From all reports that I’ve heard, the players meshed well with him last season, and he did a good job of “coaching them up”. Any chance of him returning as a GA?

  2. Scott, let’s say you are the SC head coach and have 18 scholarships to give out, please give us your breakdown of your ideal class by position. Thanks.

  3. Don’t you find the comments on this site to be a reflection of your professional career?
Why doesn’t anyone at the Daily News (or yourself) monitor the users that are allowed to comment on this blog? I love heckling and bickering with UCLA fans, but making fun of USC players that have died? It’s pathetic.
Have you seen this garbage? Here are two examples:

“How did recruiting go for our Cliff Diving Team? After that slight miscalculation by Mario “the Screaming Eagle” Danelo, we seem to have lost our recruiting edge! So I think we should do a Mario Danelo “Headless” Bobble Night! Get it? The Bobble has his head bashed off like the real little piece of shit Super Mario!”

“Speaking of killing yourself, have you heard the REAL story of why Super Mario Danelo killed himself? I read on the internet his secret life as a gay prostitute on Santa Monica Blvd was about to become public. So the dirty little coward took the chicken’s way out! But, I read the male prostitutes on Santa Monica honored him by doing the “Missing Fag” formation as they lined up on Santa Monica Blvd! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!”

  4. Why do you think USC didnt consider names like Chris Claiborne, Junior Seau, Mark Carrier or Sammy Knight for any of the coaching positions. With Claiborne and Seau is it a lack of experience or just no mutual interest? And with Knight doesnt he seem like a more sound option that Marvin Sanders who has somewhat of a sketchy past?

  5. During the 50 – 0 game last season, do you feel that the other team gave up and lost their drive to play for their former coach Newhessal? Or were they just tired?

    Thanks for the forum

  6. Lane Kiffin should commit more to the D-linemen part of his recruiting. You have said as much Scott. A team with a big bruising physical D-line (LSU, Alabama type) will force any team’s offense, Oregon or otherwise to alter what they call and take some of their strengths away. You see it Scott, I see it. Is Kiffin so blind to this?

  7. One of your recent posts was critical of Kiffin for suggesting to Marqise Lee that he could play b-ball when he was signed up for USC, but Kiffin is now saying the risk of injury is too great. You failed to mention that the circumstances changed since Lee was signed (e.g., he is a star in the making at WR, and the b-ball team was atrocious this year).

So, do you really think Marqise Lee should be playing basketball for USC this season? If not, why make the comment in the first place? Was it just another chance to take a pot shot at Kiffin?

  8. What’s the harm of offering a scholie to a kid at this point, if the kid doesn’t pan out like you think he might they can always stop paying attention to the kid like they did to Payton.

  9. ^Why does BruinRob care so much? I thought he claimed he wasn’t the one commenting under “N0BS”…

    Ha…. what a loser.

  10. Scott,

malachi raises a good point that I would like to develop further. In the 50-0 game last year we faced a championship-winning team, but usually championship teams don’t lose FIFTY TO NOTHING to their main rival.

What happened? Did they not play their starters? Or do they suck at football and they actually won a championship for a different sport like skipping practice before getting your ass handed to you by a Big 10 opponent in a 5th tier bowl game?

Thanks for any insight you can share.

  11. Scott, when are we going to have a chance to guess who the Fat Booster is? Can we email you the initials? Could the winner sit with you in the Press Box and freeload the buffet like the writers?

  12. HI SCOTT
A follow up to my question last week—I know Dion is a great tackler[I think he led the team in tackles],but because he is so small [he got at least one concussion that I know of], it really is amazing he can play LB at all. Also, I know he has a history of being a great safety. My question is–what skill or skills does he lack to be a great cornerback since he has shown himself to be a great tackler and pass defender? Sincere thanks for your answer.

  13. By the way everyone,

The bookstore is selling awesome t-shirts that say “50-0” on them with the date. And the “0” is in powder blue and yellow. Classic.

  14. Scott, last forum I asked if you thought that Monte had by this time learned to defend against the spread offense as well as anybody. If you answer it subsequent to now, please forgive me.
My question for this forum is how many players did we sign in Jan-Feb for next Sept.? I keep hearing 18, but I only can count 17—the 15 the scouting services listed plus Shaw and DeVante Wilson…am I missing anyone, and, if so, who? Many thanx, and thanx for the forums too.

  15. GREETINGS, SWORDSMAN:
Well, we’ve covered all the other positions, so how about giving us your projected two deep for the LB spot, the CB spot, and the safeties? As always, thanks very much in advance, Scott, from your old friend who sent you the pix of the purp from his book lo those many years ago—shades of Josh K., gone with the wind. PS Missed the chat, so hoping you’ll give us night owls a shot next time–giving short notice like you did should cut down on the number and make it more workable.

  16. Is the secret to Matt Barkley’s success that his girlfriend Brittany Langdon lives 1000 miles away at Seattle Pacific University and he doesn’t have any distractions during football season?

  17. wolfman, since you are so amused by these gladiator style UCLA vs Southern Cal match-ups and comparisons, i have the following question concerning overall status relative to the three sports people care about: Football, Basketball & Baseball.
Basketball: UCLA in a down season, still will be in some post-season play, and with a potentially HUGE recruiting class, the picture is bright, despite CBH’s tendency for boring play. SouthernCal basketball: ugh.

Football: while Southern Cal is looking strong for next year, lets face it, compared to Southern Cal Basketball, the Bruin footbowlers WERE the PAC12 South Champeens by some miracle of circumstance.

    Basseball: nuff said.

so by the aggregate of recent ACHIEVEMENT in these sports, and considering the “lowest elements” of each program, (Southern Cal basketball is WAY lower than UCLA football) and the Bruin dominance in Baseball, do you agree that based on this criteria, UCLA comes out ahead, mano a mano at this point in time??

thanks as always for the Open Forum!

  18. Charlie Bucket:

You are aware of SC’s national championships in baseball, right? Kinda like UCLA in basketball–it’s been a while. Ever heard of Randy Johnson?

Football? That’s a joke. You shared ONE national championship with Ohio State in the 50s!! They were ranked #1 in the AP while UCLA was ranked 1 in the UPI.
Congrats on your ONE (shared) title.

    You can have basketball.

USC still wins. Soon enough we’ll have more overall titles, too. If only football had a playoff and those counted.

Either way, you’re on a USC blog trying to prove UCLA is better. You don’t see Trojans trying to do that. Goes to show who’s who in LA.

    FIGHT ON!

  19. Scott, do you think it is dumb for certain fans to denigrate fucla’s one shared 1954 national championship in football when we have 6 shared national titles in football (1928, 1932, 1939, 1974, 1978 and 2003)? Does it seem to you that saying a shared national title doesn’t count hurts us more since we have more shared national titles? Do you think there are much better arguments against the ruins pathetic football program than that one?

  20. @gotroy, it’s more that it’s ONE title that makes the fact that it’s shared more noticeable. USC football certainly has enough history and prestige than to base any argument solely on national titles (All-Americans, Heisman Trophy winners, NFL draft picks and most NFL Hall-of-Famers than any other NCAA program, conference titles, bowl wins, Rose Bowls, etc)
    Fight on!

  21. lbc, six of our ten national titles have been shared. Our 11th was vacated after Pat Haden refused to fight the corrupt NCAA. So if 60% of our 10 titles were shared, why would we go around claiming that sharing a title somehow diminishes what was accomplished on the field? It’s the nature of a system without a playoff that some years the titles will be shared when two teams never play each other. I mean, fucla has only beat us one time in the last 13 years and we just thrashed them 50-0. That’s argument enough don’t you think?

  22. This question isn’t specifically about you. I’m just wondering why people become “inside sources” if they know that whatever writter or blogger they talk to is going to publish what they tell them. Are they trying to show off to the reporter, helping a friend (reporter) out, leak information on behalf of the programe etc? Aren’t they risking their job?

  23. The L.A. Times reports that Kiffin and Haden went after UCLA WR coach Eric Yarber but he decided to stay in Westwood. Do you read this as a big disappointment for Lane that he didn’t get Yarber?

  24. Is this your blog? Who has control over it? Who has control over the comments by you, and your readers?

  25. Scott, I’ve heard that Woods, the defensive tackle, is a great talent, but is lazy and inconsistent. Is that how you see him too, and, if so, what do you think his chances are of straightening himself out? We badly need help this year at DT.Thank you very very much for whatever you feel free to say about this.
PS Can you share with us about how often you are planning to have the chats? Thanks again!

  26. Vulfman, vhat do you sink of zee fact zee Baseball Writers of America vill not schtrip Ryan Bruan uff his MVP Avard efen if his appeal for cheatink is denied? Don’t you sink it is ridiculous for zee writers not to rescind zee avard? Doesn’t zis mean Bruan’s avard is worseless and doesn’t it inwalidate zee Baseball Writers MVP Avard itselve?

    Vhat say you, Vulfman???

  27. Scott,

What do you think about the fact that one of your readers went to the trouble of asking you a question in a German accent?
