At the beginning of his post signing day presser, Kiff mentioned Scott and a family matter regarding his father. Do you know who he was talking about?

A: He was referring to the death of long-time sportswriter and USC supporter Loel Schraeder.

Can you shed some light on the open secondary coach position, why isn’t that going to Sammy Knight?

A: I think it is similar to last year when he bypassed Keary Colbert for the wide receivers job. He simply did not think he was ready to be a full-time position coach.

Who were the final silent commits and what surprised you about signing day? Thank you in advance.

A: Leonard Williams and Nelson Agholor. I was most surprised by Andrus Peat. I heard on the night before he was going to commit to USC. I believe Lane Kiffin was equally surprised.

Scott, I am a serious SC fan & supporter. When I first saw your website, I thought it was a serious question & answer site that I could depend on. Your answers have never dissapointed me. I am saddened though with all the personal stuff allowed to come onto this sight and I am just curious, are you willing to let it become a trash site for personal attacks, or will you consider bl ocking out what is not conducive to the spirit of SC football?

A: We are currently exploring ways to make the comments more responsible and I hope to have more information soon.

  1. The simplest way to to participate in your own site. This way you could see all the crap, and get rid of it

  2. Require users to log in with the facebook accounts. That might limit the amount of trash in the comments sections.

Another suggestion is to not read the comments if you’re easily offended. Trolls will be trolls.

  3. The FB account route is a good way to go. There are many cowards on this blog who feel they could spit off any kind of BS they want because they know their identity isn’t being revealed lol.

  4. The problem with the facebook approach is shown with the OCRegister, it will kill all commenting. Many people simply do not have a facebook account and are not willing to create one just to comment on a blog.

  5. I think requiring commenters to login using Facebook is a bad idea. It just expands the opportunity for Facebook to exploit our private information.

I made a benign comment last fall on the OC Register’s USC blog after they switched over to the Facebook system. A few weeks later I googled myself and it was one of the first hits that came up. I don’t need that shit. You apply for a job and comments from a college football blog are one of the first things the prospective employer sees? Or it’s the first 20 things they see?

If you switch to Facebook you’ll lose 98% of the comments, especially given the baiting nature of Scott’s writing and the amount of trash talking that goes on here.

  6. when we signed up to be able to comment didn’t we all give our names and email address’s? If Wolf or the rag he works for wanted to figure out who Cerritos Lob was they could. Unless of course Lob lied, oh well forget that idea. He hasn’t told the truth on this site in two years. I am totally against FB.

  7. One more thing, we already know who Bucket is – right Freddie old boy! You get whupped by the ugly stick again today?

  8. @snarfy, if you are intelligent enough to comprehend the simple security settings at FB, then you should not have any problems. Maybe you should actually figure out that portion of FB before you put yourself out there blindly duh..
I believe that is why the posts at the OCR are for the most part legitimate participation on the topic of the discussion thread. Beats the chaos that’s spewed here.

So the decision here is probably being discussed as “do we give up alot of hits” to legitimize the comments? or do we keep it like it is and screw those who have complaints. I go to Lev’s blog to keep up on USC football being covered by a truly professional journalist, I come here to take a shit… afterall this is the toilet of sports blogs isn’t it?

  9. Lev’s blog is where you go if you want unvarnished, true journalism. Facts, not Enquirer bullshit like you find here. The inmates are running the asylum here Wolf and the Daily Rag. Get your your shit in one sock and get it together. The Bruin Rob and N0B thing is out of hand…

  10. I would miss most of the crazy nonsense. I don’t see why Wolf can’t just shut down the truly evil stuff, like the Danelo jokes, by banning the ONE GUY who keeps doing it, especially since people keep bringing it to Wolf’s attention. Jon Gold polices his blog; Wolf (or some Daily News intern) could do it too.

  11. carlosb,

That’s a fair enough point, but Facebook keeps changing their privacy settings. Part of their strategy is to trick people into making their information exploitable by baiting and switching on privacy terms.
