Lane Kiffin should commit more to the D-linemen part of his recruiting. You have said as much Scott. A team with a big bruising physical D-line (LSU, Alabama type) will force any team’s offense, Oregon or otherwise to alter what they call and take some of their strengths away. You see it Scott, I see it. Is Kiffin so blind to this?

A: Ed Orgeron will not let USC sign less than three tackles. I think the difference should be a further attempt to sign linemen, especially tackles, from the South. The SEC seems to get the best defensive tackles lately. USC must sign five d-linemen in my opinion.

One of your recent posts was critical of Kiffin for suggesting to Marqise Lee that he could play b-ball when he was signed up for USC, but Kiffin is now saying the risk of injury is too great. You failed to mention that the circumstances changed since Lee was signed (e.g., he is a star in the making at WR, and the b-ball team was atrocious this year).

So, do you really think Marqise Lee should be playing basketball for USC this season? If not, why make the comment in the first place? Was it just another chance to take a pot shot at Kiffin?

A: I think you misunderstood my original post. Kiffin said he told Lee to play AFTER football season. So I think there was a contradiction in responses.

  1. Of course Lee would not play basketball during football season. I never suggested that.

Scott, you dodged the question: “So, do you really think Marqise Lee should be playing basketball for USC this season? If not, why make the comment in the first place? Was it just another chance to take a pot shot at Kiffin?”

  2. I like your thinking Scott… 5 D-tackles is better than Oregeron’s 3! I also agree SC should be more agressive towards big tackle-type players in the deep south. Maybe since the team is going to start next season ranked in the top 3, they should take advantage and begin recruiting any big lineman LSU & Alabama seems to be recruiting, now!

  3. Great point concerning the D-Line, Wolf, but only if you’re operating outside the constraints of the scholarship restrictions (and reality). Your position as back-up armchair quarterback allows you to state your unfounded “expert” opinions, but you never have to suffer the repercussions of your errant analysis.

Orgeron’s realistic ultimatum of three D-linemen is good, but you know what’s even better? A million D-linemen! And while we’re at it, let’s make sure they’re all Alabama’s recruits (because stealing those will be a cinch)! I see your three and raise you a million billion.

  4. 3 defensive tackles!?!? all 5 current Defensive tackles are underclassmen. USC only has 18 scholarships to give out max. Wolfie get real buddy ever since your “percentage chance” recruits will committ to USC you have lost any credibility with me.
