Freshman linebacker Scott Starr will practice at middle linebacker today in his first spring workout. That’s a tough spot to be a backup with sophomore Lamar Dawson already penciled in to go about every play next season.

For what it’s worth, not all USC’s beat writers are reporting that the starting LBs are penciled in to go about every play next season. According to Michael Lev, “one of Kiffin’s primary goals” is for USC to “develop a legitimate LB rotation this season”. Whether that will happen, I don’t know.
It may be that the source of Wolf’s “inside information” is nothing more than Wolf’s opinion. I question if he even bothered to ask a coach if Dawson is penciled in to go about every play next season. Sadly, you have to read Wolf with a grain of salt.
