AEG released renderings today of Farmers Field, its proposed football stadium near Staples Center. The stadium is in the upper left. If it even gets built. How would this affect USC, which is committed to remaining in the Coliseum?

Let’s not lose sight of what’s important here — fleecing the taxpayers for some billionaire’s stadium project. Can’t we all agree that the key goal is to put the taxpayers over a barrel and give it to ’em good? 15 years from now, when the Los Angeles Chargers decide that they would rather be the Los Angeles Chargers of Anaheim, USC will have its pick of stadiums.
Here’s how USC would be impacted. We’d play our games at the Coliseum on Saturdays. Then sometimes there’d be a pro game on Sunday.

USC will always play their games at the Coliseum, especially now that the school controls the venue.
The AEG fantasy stadium project will never be built. If a new pro stadium is ever built in LA, it’ll be Ed Roski’s stadium at Global Crossing. AEG has proven time and time again with the LA Kings that they are not serious owners of professional sports teams. And unlike other sports leagues, the NFL will not accept someone who is buying a team solely as a marketing gimmick to sell their condos.
Really no impact, unless the Coliseum Commission screws up. How many NFL stadiums are shared by a college team? I don’t know what UCLA’s deal is with the Rose Bowl? Might make more sense for 2 teams (AFC & NFC) to share stadium like in NJ. Most likely because of no current stadium contract are the Rams & Chargers. If not the Chargers, then the Raiders if they don’t share Santa Clara stadium with the 49ers. Easy no Division changes needed.

Gawd, I hope SC never lowers itself to play in some corporate building. I was in Staples Center a couple of times the last month, with SC and the Lakers, and that building has the same appeal of Phyllis Diller in a bikini, and it arouses a similar amount of passion.
Even its name smells of greedy money-grubbing.
The coliseum is old, but so is the one in Italy, and I noticed it was a pretty popular attraction when I was there.
The coliseum smells of SC tradition– the 1962, 1967, 1972, 1974, 1978, 2003 and 2004 national championship seasons still create a ghost-like feel when I enter that godlike citadel
