USC v. UCLA

What happened to the great recruiting battles that were expected? Is it too soon still? Will it pick up when coaches visit high schools this spring? So far, all those great head-to-head battles seem to be something that will happen later than sooner.

  1. Scott – here’s the latest entry in my series of explaining things for you:

The recruiting battles between USC and UCLA will heat up when recruiting season actually gets started in a couple months.

  2. I think recruiting will become a little more competitive, but in reality, ucla will need to build up a little more respect for the program before anything becomes highly competitive. Anyone thinking the new coaches are an instant fix is dilusional. They will tell you they need time also.

  3. ^you dumb twit! Perhaps you’ve been in a coma for the last 2 years and have failed to notice the last THREE (3)
EXCEPTIONAL U.C.L.A recruiting classes in spite of the less than impressive W/L records? (BTW….Same thing can’t be said for your BasketBall program). Recruiting will ONLY IMPROVE as the team comes together under CJM (unfortunately….can’t say the same thing about CKO). I didn’t know people were still into Glue sniffing.
    Fit On Torgan!
(not even “MONO” would make such a BASELESS statement).
Limbo U!, where the bar only gets LOWER!

  4. USC basketball isn’t getting good recruits.
UCLA football is, according to ThaiMaxiPad.

USC bball has a reason to suck.
    UCLA football doesn’t.

    Ha, TROLL on though…

    50-0 you pansy.

  5. I notice you didn’t deflect anything about ucla not getting respect. You are saying exceptional like you believe it. The only thing I sniff is a wiff of your stupid b.s. But unlike you I won’t call names.

  6. USC owns…Just curious why you think USC basketball has a reason to suck…and why they can’t get decent recruits. Not trying to get into the “childish” part of the debate but is seems to be a bit defeatist.

Both schools have a lot to offer potential recruits in both sports, which is why it has been frustrating to us Bruin FB fans. We have a great place to recruit to and both schools should be good in both sports. There are 10 million people in LA County and SC can’t find 5 good BB players to show up? New facility? Strong academics? What gives?

  7. @Probation

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I absolutely think USC can get good recruits. They have. Tim Floyd was doing an outstanding job bringing in players such as Taj Gibson, Demar Derozan, even Derrick Williams & Co before allowing them to be released from LOI when Garrett sent Floyd packing.

USC was on a great run under Tim Floyd beating a good North Carolina and Durant’s Texas team when they were in the tourney year after year. By saying USC has a reason to suck I meant because KO isn’t currently bringing in kids making the impact that Floyd’s recruits were.

Thai said UCLA has been getting good recruits. Which is why I said USC had a reason to suck at bball while UCLA didn’t for fball.

  8. own’s, as usual is clueless. At least NUBSIE was an insider and knew what was going on.
    “Outstanding job bringing in players”…
Taj Gibson?…where do i start? Graduated high school at 19 yrs. old. Then spent 3 years at some JOKE of a prep School (stoneridge prep). The O-N-L-Y “school” willing to take a chance(Yup…SURPRISE..because of ACADEMICS!) on this 23 year old FRESHMAN was SUCks. (Nope…he didn’t graduate)! BTW, This quote about STONERIDGE PREP…”Stoneridge Prep used to be a member of the California Interscholastic Federation, then became an independent prep school several years ago after repeated problems with rule violations”. Nuff’ said.
DeMar DeRozan (please note the proper SPELLING of his name, you must have studied under Wolf?)..Oh yea…he was the guy that REFUSED to attend USC UNLESS the team also brought in his buddy, Lil Romeo (musician, actor, and part time BALLER). Floyd, “the great recruiter”, knew a good deal when he saw one…and moved in for the kill. Remember that SWEET Package deal? Speaking of Packaged deal’s and Prized SUCk’s B.Ball recruits under TIMMY…you can’t possibly forget to include Danny (busted Jaw) Hackett who’s father “COINCIDENTALLY”, was Hired as an assistant to Floyd. “Danny” got his nickname after O.J. Mayo (that’s a whole nother’ story!)got tired of HEARING CRAP, from the “COACHES SON”, and “BUSTED HIS JAW!
Of course Derrick Williams was initially interested in SUCks, probably in part because of “RUMORS” of CASH FILLED ENVELOPES being delivered by Floyd.
Other than that…your facts are pretty much Right On!
Do all of us a favor and post a little more often!
    Fit on Torgan!

  9. Thai,

Comprehensive report showing all of the time and effort you dedicate to USC hoops! Thanks for your interest and especially for doing so in the middle of the night.

  10. Jezro: this brings up a crucial point: we all know Thai lives in an exotic time zone…however you have never reconciled this fact with my rather normal posting times.

the ThaiMex Conjecture now officially DEBUNKED!!

elsewhere this AM, Dynasty left no doubt he is not Bucket or anyone else. Jezro, how many public failures can you take?

  11. Taj Gibson looks pretty good in the NBA right now. You telling me Jrue Holiday is any more intellectual than Taj? Lmao… nice try.

Ever try Wikipedia, idiot? see here:
Gibson began his high school career at Telecommunications High in Brooklyn, N.Y. He then attended Stoneridge Prep as a sophomore and junior in Tarzana, California. During his senior year in 2006, he attended Calvary Christian in San Fernando, California. Enough said there, friken moron.

Btw, I know how Demar spells his name. I just don’t CARE to do it just for some GEEKS like you that troll the blog of a team he’s envious of (the best sport in America–football baby!) Not to mention the irony in you–the cool guy who TRIES to be cool by PURPOSELY misspelling words–begging me to spell his name correctly. What a pansyass. Idiot. Get a life already!

“Do us all a favor and post a little more often!” Lol, so you actually TRY identifying as part of the Inside USC blog community as a UCLA fan? Wow…… get a life you goddamn pansy!!! LMAAOOO

You have no life though.. so TROLL on anyway

  12. You gotta at least own up a little bit.
ThaiMex may have been a bit off on Gibson’s true frosh age, but so are you. And that’s using the same Wiki just now that you said you used.
It clearly states further down that Taj was a TWENTY-ONE year-old frosh when he was named to the then-Pac-10’s all-frosh team. And there was controversy there, because Taj was actually as old as some seniors that year.
Check his birthdate out (June 1985) and then his grad year from h.s. (1996). Of course, how he got around the decades-old CIF ruling that you CANNOT TURN 19 BEFORE Aug. 1st of your senior year beats me. Must have been a SUC lawyer helping him. Hell, Taj was 20 before he even walked the halls his senior year.
What a joke. Could you imagine the players that would be considered all-americans if they could be 20 before starting their senior years?
    Cheat on, though.

(Or, try doing it legit … UCLA just signed All-American Tony Parker to complete the nation’s top hoops class).
