Last week you reported that Dennis Packer has been replaced as the game announcer to “improve the fan experience” in the coliseum. I am a little perplexed: how does replacing Dennis make for an “improved fan experience”? In my list of items that need to be addressed at the coliseum, replacement of the PA announcer doesn’t even register. Frankly, I thought he was a pretty good PA Announcer.
To be fair to Pat Haden, during his tenure as AD, Heritage Hall seems to have rediscovered the people who pay for tickets to the games (let’s see if that phenomenon persists once USC resumes selling north of 85,000 tickets per game on a regular basis).
That being said, such an apparently unnecessary change makes one wonder: is this “change” an indication that USC does not really intend to make any “changes” to the coliseum that have price tags? Is this the best “change” the denizens of Heritage Hall are capable of, or was there another issue involved and the explanation given is more of a face-saving way of ending the relationship?

A: I think you hit a point when you said this is a change that can be made without a price tag. If you went to the Coliseum for the spring game, you saw there are no improvements being made this offseason. That is a result of the criminal proceedings and the slower-than-expected handover of the Coliseum to USC.
I also feel there is a change-for-the-sake-of-change attitude to show improvements are being made. I was told by some athletic dept. sources that there were some complaints over Packer’s performance. But if that was the determining factor for making switch, I’m not so sure.

I had been under the impression that Nelson Agholor was recruited as a wide receiver with a spot on the defensive secondary as a possibility but never as a tailback. George Farmer was, at least temporarily, moved against his will and I don’t know if that’s the situation with Agholor.
Was tailback discussed with Agholor when he was being recruited and if not, how does he feel about the move?
As a separate comment that you don’t need to respond to: For the record, I agree with Trojan Conquest in that the individuals posting as BruinRob, Charlie Bucket and their various other handles seem to be overrunning the board and making it unpleasant with threats, slurs and antagonizing comments. If you follow the posts for a few days, you’ll see what we mean.

A: I believe he was recruited as a wide receiver and told he might be used as a receiver coming out of the backfield. That appeals to any recruit because it means more touches. Since Signing Day, of course, he now will have an expanded role at the tailback position.
Last year’s experiment with George Farmer was a failure, mainly because the coaches tried to force Farmer to play a position he did not want. I sense this is different because I’ve heard Agholor does not mind playing both spots. Unlike Farmer, Agholor will not have his two high school teammates starring at wide receiver. But Agholor also strikes me as someone who wants to be challenged.

  1. To that end, if you really want unique users instead of singular poster with multiple usernames, you could just tie the username and login info to the users IP address. This will, of course, make it easier to block that user if that situation arises. Just a thought.

  2. IP addresses are not always a sure-fire way to identify a single user because there can be multiple users behind a router sharing the same public IP address. A large portion of folks posting from within USC would probably come up on the same IP address.

  3. Sam Gilbert……it’s obvious that Wolf likes the way it is. He skipped my question altogether, and didn’t answer that part of your question. He never answered the questions by others in the past about how the advertisers look at blogs….total number of hits, or the number of participants? Of course there are those who post under many names. There was recently something like 75 posts on one subject, with most being the same few posters with many multiple posts. Oh, and of course not on the subject matter.
I have no problem with UCLA contrarian views, just the ridiculous posts that make it about them. Same can be said for some Trojans. This blog should be re-titled “Inside the minds of charliebucket & bruin rob”.

  5. basketball question. cant help but notice what the bruins are doing as far as recruitment goes, what news of our trojans? been a while since we had at least one nationally ranked recruit out of high school, any news on the horizon? does o’neal recruit well?

  6. Scott believes in laissez faire, or the less intervention into posters’ comments the better. It probably is tied in with profits, because the more hits on his blog the more he realizes
    advertisers’ money.

Quite frankly, however, I am occasionally amazed at how pedophilic, racist, sexual bigotry etc comments are allowed to stand.

But then again, Scott also does not censor nasty personal comments directed at him, so he is consistent.

As for the anti-SC posters on this blog, it is a back-handed compliment that they especially hate Trojan football so much that they feel the need to lash out and try to belittle the program.

I guess if Trojan football were not such a unique and storied “brand” we would not have uckla posters caring so much about SC.

  7. Wowie Kazowie! Wolf totally dismissed the lame addendum to my question that attempted to besmirch the Classy Cadre!

And Mr. Lawyer, Wolf DOES police the commentators! Did it escape your attention that NOBS (by far the worst of the worst with his pedophile and racist comments) and his lover Mono have been banned? Even Jethro Sabbath who is Mr Peepers by comparison, was banned for invading the privacy of an innocent bystander!

By the way, why do you call yourself “Lawyer John”? You are the only person around who identifies himself by reference to his occupation. I don’t see any Joe the Plumbers or Sam the Butchers around here. Are you so proud of your occupation? It’s not that impressive, in fact most with any life experience detest attorneys.

In Europe, when you ask someone, even professionals, “what do you do?” they answer, “I climb mountains” or “I paint” or “I play the piano and play sports with my kids”

Only in America do people define themselves primarily by their occupation. But you seem to have this fixation to the extreme degree. Weird.

  8. The real Sam Gilbert’s username is linked to another page. Sam G-uppercase i-lbert is just like the imposter “owns”, “monopoly”, “lbc”, etc. Aka: RuinSlob. It’s how bRuinRob still comments without people thinking he’s still here. Loser.

  9. Aahh “Sammy” (wink, wink)…very fine observations. This site has improved significantly over the last year, primarily as a result the banning of the sociopaths previously mentioned, and the WARNINGS sent out to abusers (99.9% Torgans!). Unfortunately, there’s a lot more “CLEANING” up to be done, but I’m confident Scotty and his associates will take care of any problems especially from those Knuckleheads with 50% of the posts on a single thread as well as those that continue to spread LIES and tasteless rumors,….they are a QUEER bunch.
The LAWYER thing guy is also very strange. My guess is his business is so BAD, he’s become desperate and is using this site (You know SUCks Types and all those sick/criminal minds) to drum up business. Just a hunch.
Sammy (wink, wink)…again, a big thank you for speaking out against hate and all things bad.
    Fit on Torgan!

  10. Exactly my point. I don’t give a frack about the people who post here. Don’t need to know why someone calls himself whatever. Just want to read about SC.

  11. Hahaha look at all these busters. U got some guy who wants everyone to know he’s a lawyer, then u got another guy who wants everyone to know he’s thai and mexican. Ur both chumps, who gives a damn about ur occupation or ur nationality. Hahaha go back to Bangkok, but first come clean my house, mow my lawn. Haha slimeball shyster = creature lower than dirt and a high priced whore.

    BAMA = #1

    Love it, and RECOGNIZE

  12. Lmao.

    Alabama: 1 Heisman
    USC: 7 (or six…) Heismans

    Equal in Natl Titles

    USC = most NFL Hall-of-Famers

Of course, like the UCLA trolls, “Roll Tide” won’t respond to these facts, LOL

    TROLL on redneck!

  13. wow! powerful stuff from Papa G!! once and a great great while, a Nabobber will surprise with keen insight and sage wisdom!!!

and great points made by Thai as ALWAYS!! still cleaning to be done, but the wolfman has TOTALLY IMPROVED the blog by banning key trOXans!!

in fact, i was about 24hrs from leaving this blog for good before the wolfman banned NOBS and MONO!!! thanks for the gumball, wolfman!!!

  14. Quite honestly, I didn’t notice that NOBS and MONO were not posting anymore. I usually skipped over their ridiculous diatribe anyway. But the fact that Scott allowed them to spill their guts for over a year says volumes

And if ‘Sam Gilbert’ must know, many of my clients are of Chinese-descent, and my last name is difficult for them to pronounce, so when calling them I simply identify myself as ‘Lawyer John.’ It has become a nickname of sorts, similar to an old football player who once used the nickname.

And ‘Sam’, perhaps now you could explain why you use ‘Sam Gilbert,’ a despicable character in uckla lore. I always presumed you used it to needle the bruins. But quite frankly, it has gotten a little old.

Now, as for your life experiences dictating that you detest lawyers, I share your taste to a degree, and in fact to a very large degree.

But as with anything and everything in life, ‘Sam,’ there are exceptions. And I would bet that there is a lawyer or two that you have met in your life experiences that you liked. But I probably would not be one of them.

  15. So after a day or two off the bruin trolls are back. Including the Sam Gi-capial I-bert.

  16. AH! AH! AH!

Jezro: you haff done it AGAIN! By zhat I mean you are makink more false accusations!

So vatch out, or zee Vulfman vill be bannink you NEXT!

    Er, I mean AGAIN!

    AH! AH! AH!

  17. Sam Gilbert: not to be a Wolf apologist (although I do read this blog daily for what it’s worth), but when you say, “as a separate comment that you don’t need to respond to” that kind of opens the door for Wolf to not respond. Not much can be read into that.

  18. USC Anteater,
I agree. Wolf answered the only question I asked completely, I haven’t said anything in the comment section about Wolf not addressing my comment (that I did say he didn’t need to respond to). Maybe the Sam Gi-capital i-bert did, I didn’t read all through his remarks.

I’m kind of surprised Wolf even reprinted that part.
