Underwhelming Underclassmen

The Pac-12 ranked fourth in the NFL draft with 28 players drafted. That trailed the SEC, of course, which had 42, the Big Ten (41) and ACC (31).
But the real story for the Pac-12 was how some of its underclassmen fizzled: Quarterback Darron Thomas (Oregon), tailback Chris Polk (Washington) and defensive tackle Armond Armstead (USC) all decided to turn pro early. And none were drafted.

Morning Buzz

USC coaches recently visited Georgia during the spring evaluation period for high school recruits. Among the recruits the Trojans visited were defensive end Robert Nkemdiche,
tailback Alvin Kamara, linebacker Trey Johnson and free safety Vonn Bell.

Former USC quarterback Aaron Corp signed with the Buffalo Bills while former defensive tackle Hebron Fangupo signed with the Houston Texans.

Football’s Track Stars

Cornerback Nickell Robey finished second in the long jump at the USC-UCLA dual meet with a jump of 23-11.5. Wide receiver Marqise Lee was third at 23-8.75. Robey and Lee were also on the 4 x 100 relay team that finshed second at 39.51.

Former USC quarterback Matt Leinart is close to signing with the Raiders according to ESPN, which would once again make him Carson Palmer’s backup. Meanwhile, USC tight end Rhett Ellison was drafted by the Vikings in the fourth round.
