Wolf, with (the Late) Paul Dee in the news (the comments about him on here were dispicable, by the way–I know, its the gutter) I felt this was an opportunity to re-assess the Bush scandal with a more historical perspective. Althogh I feel your stongest attribute has always been your objectivity, I have to say in this case I suspect your inner Trojan has been doing the talking (and that’s fine).
However, it is hard for a non-Trojan to accept the notion that the sanctions were too harsh. Face it, (or don’t) Bush received so much housing, cash, cars, travel etc and flounted it (magazine cover, 10 carat ear ring etc) recklessly. There is little doubt McNair was aware of it, and by extension, Caesar is implicated. And the sheer scope of the graft dwarfs anything one player has been caught hauling in.
And the “it was 100 miles away in San Deigo” excuse rings hollow. So if the parent lives farther away in Seattle, they get free housing and the player gets the cash, car and travel?? after all, how could the school ever know??
No, I think a reasonable person might agree the sanctions actually helped the game. Now individuals and schools know the Bowl Banhammer will come out if they are caught, and they will be more wary of trying anything. Notice how fast OSU ditched the Vest?

A: My opinion is the sanctions were too harsh because it was a single player involved. It also seems the NCAA has made a point not to come close to the USC penalties for other schools the past few years.

With the opening of the McKay Center imminent, I haven’t seen any announcements about whether the public will be able to tour the facilities before it opens for business. Have you heard anything? Will athletic group donors get the only access?

A: The building is scheduled to open in late June. I don’t think there will be public tours before it opens. However, once it opens, the athletic dept. might offer some public tours. The building will be open to the public, I’m not sure yet how much access will be given though.

What are your thoughts about Notre Dame not allowing Tee Shepard to transfer to a rival school while USC allowed Amir Carlisle to transfer to ND?

A: My guess is Notre Dame would cite the “special circumstances” of Carlise’s family being in Indiana. However, this is why I questioned the release of Carlisle to Notre Dame to begin with. Especially if Notre Dame does not show similar goodwill in the Shepard case. I guess Brian Kelly does not want to take the high road.

  1. Geez Loiuse, will the stain of Reggie’s cheating EVER wash away?? i guess not, here we are talking about it YEARS LATER!

Yoda’s Atty makes a compelling case! the wolfman is just too close to this case to simply lay the ball in.

fortunately the CADRE is here for the put-back!!

the bowl ban is finally OVER after this season (although probation goes on and on). can’t we all just MOVE ON???

  2. Be careful about asking Kelly to take the “high” anything — he might break out the scissor-lift.

  3. Good point Yoda. And being 3,000 miles away imagine how much loot Lew Alcindor’s parents must have gotten from your cheating basketball coach.

  4. Hey yoda!!!!! what a stupid question….it’s all water under the bridge….LOL

  5. Hey yoda!!!!! what a stupid question….it’s all water under the bridge….LOL

  6. It was someone not associated with USC that was trying to benefit themselves, by giving Reggie and his parents stuff. That said, I’ve never felt USC shouldn’t have been penalized, just in line with other schools. The NCAA is saying by their actions…go ahead and try to cheat and improve your team, but if you get caught you better grovel and be contrite.

  7. If Reggie was the only one, the Women of Troy would have strung the NCAA along for over four years. It would have just self-imposed a slap on the hand and it would have been over and done with. The NCAA actually cut them a break and just punished Reggie to save face. The attraction to Southern Cal under Sneaky Pete was the endless contacts with agents and runners during practice.

Then, even after that, you had Joe McFumble on the take, Dillon Baxter hanging with runners for agents, just to name a few. Hopefully, the NCAA doesn’t investigate some of the volunteers on the Haiti trip. Wouldn’t want those player ineligible for next year.

    Cheat On!

  8. In what way was the NCAA just punishing Reggie? I want you to honestly name one thing the NCAA did that hurt Reggie and not USC.

  9. Yeah perhaps I am an idiot and I say weird stuff that doesn’t make sense, but I hate USC so much I can’t help but pop off.

    Cheat on!

  10. Bill, you seem like a fine, normal, well-adjusted UCLA fan. Thanks for stopping by!

  11. Hey, Bill is like the other trolls, but at least he admits he is an idiot. If only short and fat CerritosLob would come to grips with his position in life. Living in Signal Hill, habitual liar etc. Just look at him on his dating site. ROTFLMAO!!!!

  12. yoda, you basically answered your own rhetorical question; “how could the school ever know?”

    right, thank you.
