Football 101

For the second straight year, Layla Kiffin is offering “Trojan Football 101 For Ladies.” As we pointed out last year, when former USC coach Larry Smith’s wife, Cheryl, started it more than 20 years ago, it was called Football For Women.
Good to see the regression to the 1950′s by Mrs. Kiffin or whoever coined the phrase. Maybe they asked Monte Kiffin. But the price is a very un-1950′s $200 per person. Information: (213) 740-4155.

Morning Buzz

USC football players Marqise Lee (long jump), D.J. Morgan (110 HH) and Tony Burnett (triple jump) are competing in the NCAA Track and Field West Regional at Austin, Texas. Morgan qualified by running in just one competition this season, when he finished an impressive fifth at the Pac-12 championships.
The USC men’s and women’s tennis teams are playing in the singles and doubles competition in Athens, Ga. And finally, USC lost its home finale in baseball to UC Riverside, 14-9.

Tennis Update

Big win for USC freshman Sabrina Santamaria today, who defeated Georgia’s top player,
Chelsey Gullickson, on her homecourt. Gullickson was the NCAA singles’ champion two years ago.

Down Year

Pac-12 basketball doesn’t look great when only three players — Oregon State’s Jared Cunningham and Washington’s Terrence Ross and Tony Wroten Jr. — are invited to the NBA draft combine.
