Recruiting Question

The commitment of Santa Monica wide receiver Sebastian LaRue brings up a natural question in the era of scholarship reductions. Who loses out? Does this mean another receiver will not be signed? Or does it take away a cornerback/safety scholarship if LaRue moves to defense. Or does USC think someone out there can graduate early, which might ease some stress on the 15-scholarship class in February.

  1. if the robinson twins are a package deal we may lose out on both since one is a wr. the other is a lb and both are USC level recruits as i understand it. i guess larue can be a cb/returner – but how many db’s and wr’s are bringing in?

  2. The Robinson kids are 3 star, not on the radar and didn’t miss out.

  3. I’m glad that we got LaRue. The entire key to these next couple of classes is versatility and LaRue fits the bill bigtime. He’s a burner, and a possession and YAC threat, especially from the slot, he’s a tremendous return game athlete and it is obvious that we cannot have enough DBs.. All the services rate him as 4 stars.
I think the rest of the effort will be for another LB and then LINEMEN.

  4. Not sure WTF Wolf means about graduating early? SC has 18 scholarships, 3 from 2012 and 15 for 2013. They can use all 18 on early enrollees, with 3 counting towards the 2012 and 15 for 2013. They aren’t going to have a problem finding at least 3 early enrollees.

  5. Yea, Scott doesn’t know what he is saying. We have more than 3 EE already, which is a good thing, but it doesn’t change anything, we can’t take more than 3 EE anyways.

I HIGHLY doubt that we take another receiver and am not sure how I feel with having Larue instead of Stringfellow or instead of the Robinson twins. I think it is pretty much an even call between Larue and Stringfellow in terms of talent, but the Robinson twins have really grown on me and they look legit.

In the end, I totally trust this staff and know we get who we want and who truly wants to be a Trojan. Fight On!!!

  6. Trojan Conquest – Max Browne and Ty Isaac are two early enrollees that I know of. They need one more.

Since Vanderdoes is being recruited both by SC football and baseball, does anyone know the difference between baseball and football scholarships?

  7. it counts as a football scholarship. it doesn’t matter what the other sport is

  8. best….wrong. SC could take 18 EEs, with 3 counting towards 2012 and 15 counting towards 2013. I’m surprised this is still being discussed.

  9. i think what wolf’s last statement means is that no one has definitively stated who the 3 early enrollees are so that part is still in question. however, it seems likely come January, there will be 3 of them so the class will be 18 total unless staff decides to carry some over to the 2014 class if some of their sure things don’t pan out on signing day

  10. We are still limited to 75 total. 14 are graduating in 2013, and Scroggins is leaving. So I think we are at 74 right now….the limit as of today is either 15 or 16 recruits for 2012; 2 or 3 more have to leave early to keep 18, 2012 recruits.

  11. Correction…the scholie count is 75 according to uscfootball.com. there are 14 graduating, so we are limited to 14, 2013 recruits unless some leave early. We won’t know until Jan 2013 how many 2013 spots are open. We could lose Woods and Robey, which would bring us to 16.

  12. even if they don’t know who is leaving early, they will still consider taking 18 total. that’s because there are always a few that don’t qualify, have academic issues or are persuaded to leave due to limited playing time and/or may have already graduated or one can be taken away from a walkon (last resort).
