Earlier this week, former USC quarterback Mitch Mustain pitched two scoreless innings in relief in his debut for the Rookie League Bristol White Sox in Virginia. He struck out two and allowed two hits.

USC No. 8

The NCAA released APR scores today and USC’s football program ranked eighth in the Pac-12 with a score of 947. A four-year score of 900 leads to postseason bans and a record 10 basketball teams received the ban this year.

Summer Rules

Summer always brings out some standard cliches of football. Here are four that come up every summer and will no doubt be story lines going into training camp:

1. The players are benchpressing more weight than ever.
2. The team is closer than last year.
3. The players lost a lot of weight.
4. The quarterback’s arm is stronger.

Athlon’s latest list is Pac-12 players who are Heisman Trophy contenders. Matt Barkley, of course, is No. 1. Robert Woods, Marqise Lee, T.J. McDonald and Curtis McNeal also make the list.

Trojan Connection

The Charlotte Bobcats reportedly will hire St. John’s assistant coach Mike Dunlap. Few probably remember that Dunlap was an assistant at USC from 1986-89 under former coach George Raveling.
