  1. Like I said before, the good thing to come out of these scholarship reductions is the sense of urgency it has created. These players know that this class is shaping up to be amazing, and they can’t wait too long before committing or there might not be a spot for them. After this class of 18, only one more year of reduced scholarships (15) and then we’re back to normal. Really the biggest negative of this is that 10 players (30 total) who would otherwise be on SC are now going to be on other teams, mostly other PAC 12 teams.

  2. I agree. We should be totally arrogant and just continue to offer fewer schollies when the sanctions are over. You get an offer from USC, it means something!

  3. Maybe I’m missing something, but is there a sound explanation why team recruiting rankings are listed according to quantity, rather than quality?

Obviously, this is a USC fan writing, but I like to think that even if I wasn’t, I’d conclude the system seems skewed. Why is the number of players verbally committed a leading indicator of recruiting success?

  4. Maybe one of these days University of Scum Criminals will be as good as UCLA academically. NUFF SAID!!

Even in the favorite SUC source in which SUC was erroneously ranked higher than UCLA at some point the very distant past:

I challenge any of you fools to show me ANYWHERE where USC ranks higher than UCLA in anything academicallyplease provide a link, as I have. No worries, I will not be holding my breath!!!
    LMAO

  5. ftfo2009, congratulations on your victory in “Social Work” USC #11 UCLA #16 and in Engineering USC #12 UCLA #16 – on all the other USC victories you won by default because UCLA doesn’t offer those classes.

I only chose the most important professional fields (in which most schools use for bragging right)s to compare the two schools. I’ve checked out nursing and other fields in which we UCLA beats USC….but nevertheless, I do appreciate you taking the time to prove that there are in fact some areas in which USC does rank higher than UCLA – even if UCLA does not offer those classes.

  6. What is all this garbage on a SPORTS blog. If fucla is so great why does everyone like USC so much more. We are really here to talk sports, not grades and best schools.
The ENTIRE human race would rather be from USC than fucla. Subject closed.

  7. Seriously BruinRob? You don’t think engineering is an important field? Yeah, i didn’t really check the rankings too much – the stipulation was any field so…yeah.

Anyway, I’m glad you’re not recognizing the overall national rankings part. Where it says, overall, usc is better than ucla. From the site you posted links from. Seriously. Your links, prove you wrong. That was my point. It literally took me like 2 minutes.

Its like me ranting about how usc has great baseball, and all we do is baseball and were ranked super high in baseball, then posting an espn link that shows UCLA ranked and USC not.

  8. Bottom line academically, SC and UCKLA are no Harvard or Stanford.

But you can still get a great education for life from either school if you are lucky enough to get in

Now, back to sports, I note that SC has a much higher rating for each recruit than any other school. That I think would be the best test of the quality of a recruitng class.

  9. ftfo2009, sorry but all you have proven is that USC ranaks higher than UCLA in Engineering and Social Work, and the others by default…each area in which is being ranked is equivalent to having the #1 offense or #1 defene…or #1 defense against the run or the pass…or #1 in rushing yards…or #1 on yards after contact…or # in picks…or #1 in Punt return yards…or #1 vs punt return yardage…etc. etc…what really matters is THE OVER ALL HIGHER RANKING, and in that department UCLA just completely crushes USC.

I compare Law School to the over all Defense on a football team…UCLA is better than USC

I compare Med School to the over all Offense on a football team…UCLA crushed USC.

Engineering school is important but it would be equivalent to Defense against the Run…Pharmacy is equivalent to a Tackles for a Loss stat…both are important, but it’s just part of the overall component of the team’s success, and their quest to be #1.

  10. Dude. The national, overall rankings (not international, which takes into account an entirely different set of criteria), for the site you linked to, ranks USC above UCLA. That was my point.

  11. Rob,

How can you say Pharmacy is equivalent to tackles for a loss? It’s obvious that Pharmacy is equivalent to punt return coverage. Everyone knows that.
