Morning Buzz

USC received a commitment from defensive lineman Eddie Vanderdoes late Wednesday night, which followed earlier commitments from offensive linemen Khaliel Rodgers and Nico Falah.
This gives the Trojans 14 overall commitments and it raised USC’s recruiting ranking to No. 2 nationally according to Rivals.com.

  1. Of the four remaining spots, I’d like them to add an LB and two Ss. I’d also like them to add another OT. USC could return as many as 50 scholarship players currently on the roster and another 11 incoming FRs. Which are the 4 players that will leave early (or won’t make it on campus) to make room for 18? Or does Kiffin add less than 18?

Here are the players that would be eligible to turn pro at the end of the season: Martinez, Harris, Greene, Graf, Garness, Flournoy, Andrew, Wright, Woods, Robey, Breslin, Bowman, Uko, Thomas, Telfer, Shaw, Pullard, Morgan, Grimble, Di Poalo, Brown & Bailey.

Martinez, Graf, Woods, Robey, Uko, Pullard, Grimble & Bailey are expected to start & Telfer will be listed as a co-starter with Grimble. Woods appears to be the most likely candidate. Robey’s undersized for the NFL but he won’t get any taller so he’s probably the second best candidate.

  2. Thanks NJ. We get 18 this year and 15 next year, then back to normal. Do you see any problems getting a 75 man roster for 2014? And can’t they get transfer players to fill out the roster?

  3. TC, There are too many variables to answer that definitively but USC should be in good shape. I’m just speculating here but let’s say that Woods, Robey and Uko go pro early and let’s say Rodgers doesn’t make it onto campus but everybody else returns in 2013 and USC adds 18. As you point out that should leave room for just 15 in 2014. USC would return 57 scholarship players and add 15 FRs for a total of 72. I believe they could award the remaining scholarships to TRs or WOs. (How many preferred WOs have comitted to USC this year?)

  4. It will be interesting to see if Penn State does as good a job weathering the heavy sanctions that will be handed down by the NCAA for Penn State’s lack of institutional control.

Ha ha! Just kidding, of course! Obviously, Reggie Bush’s parents taking money in San Diego plus some tennis player making long-distance calls on a school telephone add up to a much worse set of crimes than JoePa covering up for a child-molesting coach who raped kids on campus!

  5. Writer on NBC Sports was calling for nothing less than the “death penalty” for Penn. St

  6. nj, based on the recruiting boards most of the targets seem to be DB’s; ramsey(cb), hargreaves(cb), redfield(s), willis(cb/s), goodman(s). then there is hatcher(dl). i think a couple skill guys are there; harris, kamara.

but i don’t think any other lb’s are being recruited. we’re doping pretty good with young lb’s through 2013. plus i’m pretty sure we got our entire 2013 ol haul in one day.

  7. Based on their precedent of applying no precedent, the feckless NCAA will penalize PSU by taking away 3 scholarships over 3 years, and vacating PSU’s 2009 Rose Bowl loss to USC.

And within 24 hours, they’ll cut the scholarship reduction in half, citing that Sandusky’s victims have already paid a steep price.

Then they’ll be off to the SEC to award a lifetime merit award to the latest RB arrested for drug and weapons possession.

  8. USC will always be USC (just ask ThaiMex, he can’t stand it). The NCAA couldn’t bring down the Trojans and likely won’t even bother trying bringing down anyone else. They should sanction UCLA for finishing 2011-12 with a 6-8 record, yes, the WORST record of any bowl team in NCAA history. Still can’t believe they lost to an Illinois squad that ended the season on a 6-game losing streak before beating those pansies from Westwood High.

    Buy hey, TROLL on, trolls!

    Remember 13-9? Don’t forget.. 50-0!

  9. in sheep’s clothing, I’ve read the same. It looks like 3 of the final 4 scholarships will go to DBs and one might even go to another WR. If the next WR is a true SE, I wouldn’t mind. And since USC is really playing 4-2-5, going into 2013 with only 9 LBs isn’t all that scary, especially since Madden could always move back to D if needed. And USC definitely needs Ss for 2013 & 2014. The OL should be OK. I just get worried having seen too many guys in that position group get banged up at once. And it’s such a difficult position to plug in new guys.

  10. USC Prediction
2012-Great shape, full roster, lots of experience
2013-Good shape, full roster, new qb, but lots of targets.
2014-Great shape, returning qb, last small incoming class. 4 & 5 star recruits abound on team.
2015-????, Lots of Freshman, little depth beyond starters due to attrition.
2016 back on top. Also in 2016, Chip Kelly guides Raiders to AFC championship game after third season as head coach. Got job after guiding ducks to 2nd Rose Bowl win ever following 2013 season.

  11. My last 4 in would be:

    S – Max Redfield
CB – Jalem Ramsey (announcing July 16)
CB – Vernon Hargraves or Priest Willis
    DT – Montravious Adams OR
    DE – Joe Mathis

If LaRue leaves, then we take both Adams and Mathis or another WR (Paul Harris or Laquon Treadwell)

    FIGHT ON!!!

  12. I guess idiots like yourselves will never learn. I kind of do feel sorry for the most of you.

I am sure it isnt the first time you peons have experienced rejection and failure in your sad little lives. I hope you all know your place, you will eventually.

    Bill

  13. Intersting scenarios Scidiot… I personally think 2013 will be “rebuilding” shaped year in havin a respectable season. I think there will be a larger group of eligible players leave for the pros after this 2012 season if the team makes it to the BCSCG in addition to a new QB coming in. 2014 will keep building on the experience-improvement and 2015 will be the year SC goes for its first playoff championship possibility. We’ll see how it plays out…

  14. scidiot: No full roster for 2012. A maximum of 74 with Tre Madden out for the season. Will Robert Woods risk a multi-million-dollar career if his ankle is not fully healed? Shit happens, and USC can’t fill those spots on the roster with scholarship players.

  15. dtksr1, I would be really surprised if more than four players turn pro early even if USC does play for the NC after the 2012 season. At this point, the only ones I see leaving early for the NFL are Woods, Robey & Uko. And if that’s the case USC would return 12 starters plus one co-starter and all three specialists in 2013. With the talent Kiffin and Orgeron have brought in the Trojans should be reloading not rebuilding in 2013.

  16. Edward, Sure there are Qs when it comes to depth but USC’s 1st string looks really, really good. USC probably needs Barkley to remain healthy & RB depth is a huge concern. I think concerns about the DL are overblown. I’m a little more concerned about LB depth. But I’m not worried at all about the DBs.

  17. bah! all this jibber-jabber about recruiting!! over the last 12 yrs, Southern Cal had the most talent by FAR in the nation, and can claim ZERO BCS champeeenships!!! so just how important is recruiting??

friends, (and Dummies) it all boils down to guts. and the trOXans never had ’em (after the McKay years anyway) and that horse has now left the station!!

i’m talkin’ ’bout winning the title ON THE FIELD (without cheating) not some paper champeeenship that no one wants anyways (i have confirmed that Alabama, for instance DOES NOT EVEN DISPLAY their AP paper champeeenship “trophy”)

    HAWR-HAWR!!!

  18. AH! AH! AH! Bucket is bulleye as usual!! Vhy aren’d zee Trojinks talkink about vinnink zee title? Noooo, inschtead, zey obsess about zee recruitink!

Zis is zee pervect example uff zee Shouldda-Couldda mentality of zee Trokinks!! Und vhen zey go AAACCCKKK! in zee Fall, zhey vill go cryink vith nosink but excuzes!

Und vee, zee mighty Cadre vill shcatter zee pieces!

    AH! AH! AH!

  19. Hey bucket, you fuckin idiot, you sound like a broken record, repeating the same shit, over and over and over…..BCS who?….We all know who the best team in the country was after that Jan 4th 2005 game,we don’t need the BCS to reconfirm it, but once again, it’s fuckin idiots like you that have a hard time accepting the facts

PS…quit living in the past, your dog and pony show is all played out….run a long the newspapers need to be delivered

one more thing…how do you suck cock with the fangs….ouch!!!!

  20. Bucket…..why would a team not want to display it’s accomplishments….Bruinrod told me you display your diploma, from Cerritos U, above the fireplace

  21. USC won two national titles – including FOUR Rose Bowls and TWO Orange Bowls during the Carroll era. BCS has clearly been discredited with its expulsion in two years.

For the record: we won a BCS title and six BCS bowl games on the field. I think that’s doing a pretty good job with all those recruits.

  22. Hey bucket(idiot) from 1998 to 2003 The AP poll was part of the BCS formula….The reason the marriage ended was because the AP voted USC over LSU for the 2003 title….so according to you from 1998 to 2003 all the BCS titles are worthless because the AP was involved….maybe a little more homework on your part

  23. According to Bucketlogic nobody won a championship before 1998.

Is he really going to dismiss the Bruin’s grand total of .5 ?

  24. Really, Bucket? You only waited 9 minutes to comment as “Count” after your usual, lame speech. Lol.

Correction: USC won a BCS title during the 2004-05 season. Now, had you said they had one stripped, then I’d leave you alone. Why do I have a picture of Pete Carroll and the Trojans holding a crystal ball in South Beach? Weird.

I’m also glad Bucket (Count/Thai) sees 4 Rose Bowl wins and 2 Orange Bowl wins as a failure. 6 bcs wins in 7 straight appearances. Just shows how hilariously pathetic UCLA football is. I mean, even if they go undefeated and win a national title, they still have NO history and likely return to being a laughingstock in the PAC-12. Call me when you go from 1/2 a title to 11 of them.

Let’s not even start on your powerhouse basketball team over the last couple decades…. LOL!!!!

    50-0

  25. ^^^^exactly!!!!!……

Bucket, can you please the newspaper on the porch

    Season tickets are going fast!!!!!
