So Much For That Pac-12 And Big Ten Agreement

The conferences killed their highly publicized scheduling agreement today. A big reason is schools like USC were not thrilled with having to play a Big Ten team especially after the recent four-team playoff model was announced and needed more freedom in scheduling.
Full statements after the jump:

Statement from Pac-12 Conference Commissioner Larry Scott:

“After extensive deliberation and consultation with member institutions, television partners and others,
the Pac-12 and Big Ten have decided not to pursue the previously announced plans for enhanced
scheduling collaboration across all sports at this time. While we continue to value our close relationship,
particularly our partnership in the Rose Bowl, the Pac-12 came to the conclusion that it’s in our
best interests to maintain our 9-game conference schedule and maximum flexibility in out-ofconference
scheduling. Thus, the Pac-12 decided not to lock into the proposed mandatory 12-game
schedule in football.”

Statement from Big Ten Conference Commissioner James E. Delany:

“We are disappointed to announce today that the Big Ten Pac-12 strategic collaboration announced
jointly in December 2011 unfortunately will not be consummated. We recently learned from Pac-12
Commissioner Larry Scott that the complications associated with coordinating a non-conference football
schedule for 24 teams across two conferences proved to be too difficult. Those complications,
among other things, included the Pac-12’s nine-game conference schedule and previous nonconference
commitments.
“A great effort was made by both conference staffs to create football schedules that would address the
variety of complexities, but in the end, we were just not able to do so.
“While everyone at the Big Ten is disappointed by the news, we look forward to continuing the historic
partnership that we have with the Pac-12 and to working together on other matters in the future.”

  1. #1-PAC-12 doesn’t want to play less than 9 conference games while everyone else plays 8, that’s the first clue this won’t work. #2-These 2-conferences play eachother anyway just about every year, so what’s the big deal?#3-The beginning years of this deal had the better teams of each conference playing the worst teams of the other…I’d turn on “Heidi” instead!

  2. This tells me that USC is afraid to play the Big 10. To me this makes USC a bunch of cowards. Real champions are not cowards, and they take on all comers. This cannot be said for USC now that this news has come out. You are all pretty much cowards anyways, your insults dont do much to me, they are just cheap shots, typical move of a coward

  3. Oh Billy, you know what a coward is, you see one every time you look in the mirror.

  4. Hey Billy, you fuckin idiot, it was a mutual decision, so why in the fuck would you blame one conference…..read more and post less

join the cadre, they need another asshole, I’m talking about the one you wipe….ouch!!!!

  5. It was never going to be a go with 9 conference games, especially with the plan to match the teams by strength. You would be looking a a future SC schedule that would include Texas, Notre Dame and a Big 10 team like Wisconsin or Ohio State all in the same year.

  6. Cheer up, Bill. This decision means that you will be spared the spectacle of UCLA losing to Indiana.

  7. you only like gogo girls because you cannot get a girl in life. You are all idiots and you will pay for using profanity at me Trojanfan. Nobody talks to me that way.
at least the person that uses scidiot is realistic and he knows that he is an idiot. you are all in denial that you are really idiots.
I am and always will be better than you all

    Bill

  8. UCLA just got a committment from Christian Morris who is a better offensive lineman than anybody USC has
Maybe now your arrogance will die as it should.

    Bill

  9. ^^^^^I can’t seem to find that guy on any of the recruiting services

Billy!!!!…did you forget your meds today

  10. So the team that is 34-9-2 vs. the Big 10(12) are cowards? The team that in ’08 beat #5 Ohio State 35-3, and #8 Penn State 38-24 in the Rose Bowl are cowards? How about Michigan in the ’03 and ’06 Rose Bowls? Or Illinois in the ’07 granddaddy of em all? I have a feeling USC is not afraid of the Big 10(12)
