This is utter nonsense as the presidents of the schools in that conference hire & tell its commissioner what to do unless this is a ploy by gutless presidents to have the commissioner be the bad guy in firing a popular coach…

  • W.E.B. Dupree

Pretty tough to imagine a realistic scenario in which a commissioner would dare do something like that, if the school and its fans wanted to keep the coach.

dtksr1′s theory is about as good as any, I suppose.

But that might just set up the commissioner and conference for lawsuits from the fired coaches. Bizarre idea.

  • gilligan

Mr. Wolf, who is your source on this matter because this idea is crazy. I guess the Big 10 likes to burn money or they are trying to provide a fair advantage to PSU. This idea makes no sense and lawsuits will drain the Big 10 financially. I also doubt that each state govening board would approve this measure.

  • How does Scott Wolf keep his job?

I’m amazed that individuals, institutions, etc. are so willing to cede their sovereignty.

  • BoscoH

If Larry Scott had been around during the Hackett era, we’d be his biggest fans!

  • BiII

people better hope that this does not happen in the Pac 12 because Lane Kiffin would be the first person fired. He is disrespectful and always breaks the rules which would lead to a well deserved firing.

    Bill

  • BiIl

    Also, I am an idiot.

    Bill

  • I DIg Go Go Girls

We currently have a president who just signs executive orders and bypasses congress on what seems like a daily basis to do what he wants, what’s the big deal about the Big 10?

  • How does Scott Wolf keep his job?

I agree with Bill. Beating ucla 50-0 was disrespectful. USC could have hung at least another 2 TDs if Kiffin used all of his TOs. We need a coach that will respect the alumni and fan’s wishes, and run up the score.

How does Scott Wolf keep his job?

  • in sheep’s clothing

    wait, what?

  • Globe

Why does Wolf have such a stick up his ass for Larry Scott? The guy could save 20 blind orphans from a burning building and Wolf would find a way to criticize it.

  • JAG

So does Delany have to pay the coach’s buyout clause?

This sesms like an overreaction to JoPa.

If Delany had had this power before, do you think he’d have fired Paterno?

This is a bunc of crap. It’s a power that never should be utilized. Schools know when they need to fire a coach, and they shouldn’t be forced to fire one until they’re ready.

    I rewatched the 2011 USC/Oregon game and here is my breakdown + 2012 prediction…

Darron Thomas was off on a lot of passes and missed some zone reads

LaMichael is over-rated – he is only good in open space – Barner is better

Ducks will have a much better D line in 2012 – they lost Jordan in last yr’s game

on those pass plays that Woods/Lee made, I was suprised at how well covered they were – they just made the better adjustments for the ball

USC O line wore down Oregon late in the game – but even if the late fumble did not happen, Oregon would have had a chance if USC settled for a field goal

USC was the better coached team that day

USC’s defense stiffened enough to keep the field goal out of chip shot range

both teams made some mistakes, but Barkley and his receivers were better and that made the difference – so I will now concede that it was a quality win and not just a fluke

    ————–

    2012 : Oregon wins by 10 because:

USC will once again see a running QB who can execute the zone read correctly + Oregon will have better athletes this yr at receiver

Oregon will have the best pass rush in the pac12 + a very deep defensive line to stay fresh late in the game

I don’t like to predict wierd numbered scores so I say…

    Oregon 42
    USC 31

  • gotroy22

Oregon, I can’t believe you actually posted about football. I think SC’s home field advantage and palying on the slower grass will be the difference and SC wins 50-45.

  • NJ Trojan

oregon111: That was one of the best posts I’ve read on this blog. I almost thought this was Lev’s not Wolf’s. I hope you’re wrong. I suspect the key for you is that one of your new QBs steps up and plays to the level of Masoli and Thomas, no? Good luck. Sincerely–I want to see the Pac-12 have five teams in the top 20 every year.

The fact that this game is later in the season works in your favor. USC looked really hungry last year, and I think they will be just as hungry when then ducks come waddling down…

  • LAWYER JOHN

Already discussing SC-Oregon?– Well, why not, it will certainly be the game of the year or one of them, at least.

Now, if SC had landed that Mamba kid, or whatever he calls himself, that would have tilted the betting 7 points or so the Trojans’ way.

Nevertheless, this new QB probably will not be as good as Thomas, and I would take Barkley at the end of a game over a running QB.

  • ftfo2009

If recent history between #1 and #2 ranked teams is any indication, I predict the final score being 9-5 USC (lol).

I think Oregon came roaring back last year mostly because our secondary got worn out. If anything Monte has shown an ability to improve from year to year. The OL/DL matchups should be fairly even, or a slight edge to Oregon. But I think wideouts/secondary goes to USC. I think it will all come down to if Barkley/Kiffin vs secondary can outperform Oregon QB vs linebackers, and I think our improved depth there (from last year) will give us an edge. I have USC winning, with the final score being awesome, 81-68.

  • ftfo2009

btw that was a masterful thread derailment

  • Trojanfan

I see the Ducks offense taking a step backwards this year…enough said

    USC 45-31…..Barring any major injuries

Plus USC’s defense will have improved and it’s in our backyard

  • oregon111

Trojan fan says: “I see the Ducks offense taking a step backwards this year…enough said”

    not unless there are injuries…

All Oregon offensive skill positions will be improved – in my opinion

the offensive line should be better too

I think this 2012 Oregon team will be the best team Oregon ever had – they have top talent at every position – the only drawback is some new players are reletively untested

  • Trojanfan

^^^^^^I hope this is your best team EVER, so when we stomp your ass it will hurt that much more….run a long this is a USC site

You nailed right here…. “the only drawback is some new players are reletively untested”….like your QB…LOL

  • Trojanfan

    A quote from oregon111

“Oregon will have the best pass rush in the pac12 + a very deep defensive line to stay fresh late in the game”

Not even the second best LOL

Maybe a little more film study

I have said this for several years now. Oregon and Oregon fan make for a worthy rival. Pfight On!

  • scsyco

    USC D. FTW

    V

  • oregon111

if Stanford was in the south division, you all wouldn’t even get to play in any conf title games

  • Trojanfan

^^^^hey idiot let me take it a step further….if USC played in the North division, no conf. title games for the ducks

I’m sure there are other places that would respect your opinion…..run a long this site is for USC fans
