Recruiting Question

Do you want USC to complete its recruiting class this summer or hold a scholarship for later?

  1. Even 4 and 5 star high school footballers don’t always make it at the next level i.e. college.

So withholding a scholarship until the coaches can flesh out the wheat from the chaff feels like a sound strategy

  2. I have no strong opinion one way or the other but one thing to consider is that recruits do de-commit so there’s always a chance that there will be a scholarship around anyway.

  3. If you’re confident Player X is sufficently talented, you think he will fit into your system and culture, and you’re not worried about his character, why wouldn’t you try to get him on board as soon as possible? Chances are, 1-3 of the current early commitments will sign somewhere else. So, what? USC will certainly bring in 15-18 very good players, most of which look to have the potential to be outstanding players. Even if USC doesn’t use all 18 this year, as long as 3 start in the second semester of the 2012-13 AY, USC will have room to add more than 15 next year, which would be a good thing. I just wish we had a couple more RBs this year…

  4. i agree; one, two or three of the current commits will likely sign elsewhere – it happens every year. that leaves open the possibilty that we sign the robinson twins, kamara, prevost etc. it seems one or two of the out-of-state recruits will sign closer to home. i do wonder if a couple committed early solely because our rides have run out; that it was done out of pressure to get on board. we’ll get good players regardless of 2013 class defections.

i’d rather get an inside linebacker(ie; robinson) rather than another true RB – assuming one of the defections wouldn’t be isaac or davis.

  5. @in sheep’s clothing: No, I mean, I wish USC had a couple more RBs available for 2012!

  6. I definitely save one for HargreavesIII. If there are any defections, then we’d also have one for a complete out of left field surprise stud DL or MLB.
