Medal Count

USC’s won three medals so far at the London Olympics, all in swimming. Clement Lefert won a gold medal in the 400-meter relay with France; Amanda Weir won a bronze for the United States in the 400 relay and Vladimir Morozov won a bronze in the 400 relay.

  1. Unless I’m mistaken Scott, medal count is a competition between nations.

The only medals that I’m interested in are American.

  2. So two of the three Trojan medal winners are foreigners? How many Trojans in the Olympics are foreigners? That’s great to know that these foreigners are taking scholarships that could go to Americans.

  3. FeFiFo stupid post of the week…Thanks for reminding all of us just low, LIMBO U, can go! COMBS is a hard working TWO STAR kid with great upside, and a NEAR 4.0 GPA. (If you’re gonna start bashing UNDERSIZED D-Backs….why not start in your own secondary?)
The Kid was recruited based on his accomplishments and potential,….UNLIKE a certain knuckle head named Lil’ Romeo. Know what I’m sayin’? (what say you, STINKY?)
    fit on Torgan!

  4. Economic populism is a form of isolationism. Isolationism retards trade and economic growth.

We admit the best, most-deserving, non-Americans into our institutions, and in return, we are granted admittance into foreign institutions (i.e. London School of Economics, India Institute of Technology, Tokyo Institute, The Sorbonne).

Granting scholarships based on merit, rather than demographic encourages competition, and ensures that the individual abilities are matched with institutional capabilities.

  5. Sorry Thai, all I heard you say was ‘blah blah blah, yeah you’re right, I don’t know why we gave an offer to a 2 star recruit either’.

Srsly. You’re defending giving a scholarship to a 2 star recruit, whose sales tax on his birthday present from his father cost more than that scholarship. However, I do see what Mora is doing, and it could be effective; we recruited Romeo for the same reason.

P.S. Never mind that Romeo was our second string point guard at one point in time. That probably isn’t really important.

  6. It’s so weird that whenever Bucket doesn’t post for a long time, Thai doesn’t either. It’s almost like they’re they same person. Or they like camping together. Where’d you go this time? Fire Island? Or did you go to Massachusetts to renew those vows?

  7. ftfo2009 FTW!!! ThaiMaxiPad is such a pansy LOL

Bro, you like UCLA football…… hahahahahahahahahahaha

  8. ftfo you are defending this by saying we should copy what fucla does? Really. I expect fucla to bring in ringers from other countries because they can’t compete against us.

  9. I made a few points – I’m not sure what you’re referring to, but I am mainly pointing out how ridiculous it would be for UCLA trolls to comment on who receives our scholarships, whether they be Lil Romeo (who helped us land Mayo, who is a giant shit-sipping asshole in retrospect), or foreign nationals who happen to also get gold medals. While I can’t argue against your sentiments that we should have given more weight to the needs of athletes in this country, we also need to weigh the additive positive effects that foreign culture would have as a whole on the student body.

  10. I remember interacting with students from Greece, Mexico, Kuwait and the Netherlands. None of them were athletes and all of them brought into conversation an interesting perspective on the world. Should they have been denied admission as well for American students?

  11. According to our official website there are 18 SC students representing the USA and 22 representing other countries 40 total. That has to be the most of any university.

  12. USC has the most foreign students of any university in America, so no surprise that more than a few of them are on scholarship. The fact that some are also athletes just adds to the quality of the mix.
    Everybody wins – bRuins notwithstanding.

  13. The idea that we should give scholarships to Americans only is unfair. We are a private institution that prides itself on bringing in the best possible people regardless of where they are from. That means Americans and non-Americans. These foreigners are also helping us quite a bit in winning NCAA championships. That is what makes us so popular internationally. There’s a lot of money that comes in from foreign alums. We bring in the best–there is not quota to fill.

  14. Curiously, a Foreigner may be “Hot Blooded”, but may also be “Cold as Ice”.

  15. Sales tax on a Birthday Gift is NOW A FACTOR when considering whether or not a student is deserving of a scholarship?
Lil’ Romeo played a TOTAL of 19 minutes during his 2 year “CAREER”. How does a “SECOND STRING” only get 19 minutes of court time in 2 YEARS?
ROMEO helped SUCKS land O.J. MAYO, and Demar DeRozan was the player involved in the Tim Floyd Money scandal?

    Typical SUCks knucklehead post.

  16. Jed….what’s with the Stalking? QUEER Man crush? Come on, tell everyone the truth…You’re attracted to “CADRE” types aren’t you? You great big silly Homo!
    fit on Torgan.

  17. Stalking? That’s what I do on this blog EVERY DAY. Because I have no life. I’m a UCLA fan that trolls a USC blog EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE. I’m a fucking LOSER. I have no shame. Fuck USC fans. I’m better than them. That’s how I feel, so I make it KNOWN. I’m THAI MEX.

  18. lol. If I ever troll UCLA board as much as ThaiMex, someone please just shoot me in the fucking retina.
