USC v. UCLA

Did the weekend’s results suddenly make the crosstown rivalry a game that USC should worry about at the end of the season?

    Worried sick.

Every poster who posts after this one is a faggot.

  • You say timeout, I say touchdown!

    No.

If Hundley stays healthy/keeps playing well and if the USC defense tackles like the Nebraska defense (which is to say, not at all) that game could become a great concern.

Of course, well all remember the last time ucla was ranked when they faced USC in 2005. I think the final score was something like 55-17(ish). Reggie Bush ran absolutely wild in that game and Maurice Jones-Drew didn’t do much. Crazy how Mojo could be so much better in the pros when Reggie was head and shoulders better than him in college.

I think Reggie actually took flight in that game, jumping over a ucla safety and landing 35 yards later. I guess that ’95 Impala gave him super powers. Awesome car, that 10 year old Chevy. How did Pete not see that Reggie’s stepdad’s former classmate was funneling him money so that he could buy an old beater? Any reasonable man would have seen that coming from a mile away. USC compliance ought to check the parking lot to make sure no one’s given Marqise Lee a cherry 1983 Yugo. I hear every youngster wants to get his hands on one of those vehicles.

Its only been two games, a lot of season left…

  • LAWYER JOHN

    Heck yeah.

I watched the UCKLA game carefully, because it was a very good college game, and I thought it was a game UCKLA could lose, which I did not wish to miss.

Franklin is the real deal– a senior with experience, and speed…Hundley was a surprise– very poised, ran at the right time, although I thought he was faster than that, and did not make mistakes throwing the ball…hard to get a true read on the defense because Nebraska’s Martinez had a poor second half, but no question the ‘midget-bears’ were throwing themselves all over the field. UCKLA has improved greatly from last year.

All in all, and because the game is a home field advantage for UCKLA, this game is no gimme.

  • usc50ucla0

MKs defense will focus on Franklin. Let Hundley try to throw on our LB/DBs. fUCLA will need to develop a receiver other than Manfro. bRuins have no answer to our offensive weapons (at least not yet).

Bottomline, fUCLA will have to make adjustments to play USC. Trojans stays within their game plan.

  • Trojanfan

Why would they worry about a game that’s over 2 mouths away….

Some of the shit wolfman posts makes me scratch my head

  • http://www.yahoo.com Bruin Rob is my idol

USC supposedly has the best offense in college football history, yet UCLA has the #2 offense avering over 650 yards per game…UCLA chose to run the clock out deep inb the opponent’s territory in both games which would have given them 14 points at least, and went for a touch down on a fake 19 yard field goal for a total of 17 points the didn’t pursue for the sake of padding stats, like Kiffin does, if not for that UCLA would be avering 52 points a game…and Franklin is part of a 3-back rotation if not he would have many more yards to add to his nation leading effort. Not saying UCLA will beat USC this year, but I sure hope your trojans take my Bruins for granted, if they do, USC is going to have a long day that day.

BTW Sureshot, Maurice Drew’s numbers were superior to Bushes when comparing their collegiate careers, except for Bush’s insane junior year.

  • Unconditional Sanctions Coming

The 2005 game has no bearing on this year’s game.

  • Trojanfan

Hey Bruin rod, all that shit goes out the window once the losses start to pile up

  • http://www.yahoo.com Bruin Rob is my idol

suc50, UCLA has more than Manfro, our best receiver is another freshman Devin Lucien, he will climp the latter and bring the ball down with him, Jerry Johnson, is another excellent receiver, trust me we have more weapons at WR.

  • BringbackDorrell

What does “climp the latter” mean? Must be new Bruin football term???

I love hearing that MJD would have better numbers that BUSH…but for his “insane junior year” What a douchebag. Yeah..and FUCLA would have more Rose Bowl wins but for USC’s last 20 insane years….Nice arguments.

  • Trojan Conquest

Would love for this game to mean something. No other game in the country has two schools from the same city. Let’s get back to playing it midday under the Southern California sun, with both teams wearing their home uniforms. Those white uniforms were terrible.

Welcome back Brother Rob. You’re right on the spot as usual. Even though
Devin and Jerry are unproven commodities they are productive contributors with their respectable 2 and 3 receptions in 2012. It’s no wonder you’ve

    REGGIE BUSH:

Career Rushing: 433 Att, 3169 Yds, 7.3 Avg, 25 TD
Career Kick Returns: 67 Ret, 1522 Yds, 22.7 Avg, 1 TD
Career Passing: 1 Cmp, 3 Att, 52 Yds, 1 TD

In 2005, Jones-Drew set an all-time NCAA single-season record with a 28.5 yards per return average on 15 punt returns
career all-purpose yardage record (4,688 yards). As a sophomore against Washington, Jones-Drew set UCLA’s all-time record for yards rushing in a single game (322 yards) and also scored a school-record five touchdowns.

I would say MoJo’s stats were pretty damn good.

Hey Bruin rod, this is a Trojan site, no one gives a shit what some running back of your’s did 7 years ago

Here,s a little something you can put in your pipe…lol

No. 1 Southern California got a scare Saturday night. But the electrifying Reggie Bush, playing the game of his life, wouldn’t let the Trojans lose.

Bush, making a strong Heisman Trophy statement, ran for a career-high 294 yards on 23 carries and scored twice, leading the Trojans to a wild 50-42 victory over No. 16 Fresno State and keeping their hopes alive for an unprecedented third straight national championship.

Bush, a Heisman finalist as a sophomore last year, also caught three passes for 68 yards and set a Pac-10 record with 513 all-purpose yards, easily breaking the USC standard of 368 set by Anthony Davis against Notre Dame in 1972.

“I was really feeling it – I was in sync tonight,” Bush said.

“How about Reggie! He was electric all night long,” USC coach Pete Carroll said. “He’s just got the magic. You’ve got to be in love with him. He was firing and roaring.”

Nothing can compare to that performance

  • Trojanfan

    Thanks Bucket….let me add this

Drew Olson, the nation’s leader in pass efficiency coming in, finished 14-for-32 for 146 yards and a touchdown, and the Bruins entered the fourth quarter with 166 total yards.

….And you like to talk shit about Barkley…you fuckin idiot!

  • Sam Gilbert

    Oops,

Rob “accidentally” forgot Reggie’s 95 receptions for 1,301 yards and 13 TDs vs. Drew’s 64 receptions for 819 yards and 7 TDs.

So yeah… take away Reggie’s career rushing yards, rushing average, kick return yards, passing TDs, receptions, receiving yards, receiving TDs, all-purpose yard, and all purpose yards in a single game then Maurice Jones Drew has better stats.

  • sureshot

Ah, 66-19… I must have gotten the 55 from the previous Orange Bowl when we steamrolled the Sooners. That year, the bruins did us a favor by actually showing up for the final game, thus preparing us for the Natty.

Unfortunately, in 2005, the bruins did what they do best roll over and play dead which led to massive overconfidence and a last second loss to the Fightin’ (and functionally illiterate) Vince Youngs.

I think we need the bruins to play us tough, as that allows us to curb stomp whoever we play in the bowl game. Come on gutties, you’ll need to show up this year. But first, you get the impossibly tough Houston Cougars who visit Pasadena without their Kevin Sumlin and Case Keenum. Should be as easy as Rice.

  • Encinitas Bruin

USC is the team to beat in the PAC-12. Get past Oregon on 11/3 at home (advantage SC) and you could run the table heading into the Rose Bowl on 11/17.

As a 24-year season ticket holder who has suffered through a lot of mediocre football from the Bruins this past decade, I can say something that Trojan fans know so well: Without an elite QB and a great OL, no team gets to 10 wins. USC has had both consistently for the past 10 years, and UCLA has not. Since McNown graduated in ’98, the only year we had a great QB, in ’05, we did win 10. Despite getting spanked by SC that year.

Hundley is a young kid, but he’s elite. Can’t say how his career will end, but it’s starting in brilliant fashion (628 all-purpose yards in two outings).

I was in the Rose Bowl for the Maddox-Marinovich battle in ’90. Best football game I’ve ever seen live. That’s the type of game we could be in for this year….

    May the best team win.

Hey Encinitas Bruin, layoff the koolaid it’s really effecting your judgement

Run a long, your opinion is flawed….lol

  • Trojanfan

    Hey Encinitas Bruin, you said

“Hundley is a young kid, but he’s elite”

When you post something like that, your credibility goes right out the window

  • Encinitas Bruin

    Hey Trojanfan, nice English skills:

It’s “affecting” – as in the verb “to affect.” Effect is a noun, unless you are talking about “effecting a change,” in which case it’s a verb.

And it’s “run along,” not “run a long.”

I’ve got plenty of relatives who went to USC and received a great education. Obviously, you didn’t.

  • Encinitas Bruin

Hundley is an elite QB, just as Barkley was an elite QB coming out of HS. Ask your USC friends and they’ll confirm. Rated #3 QB in the nation coming out of HS. Your credibility goes out the window by not knowing that, Trojanfan.

  • ftfo2009

His point is obviously that he’s played 2 college games so far. Hard to make a determination whether he is elite; a large part of what I would value as elite is general consistency. If Hundley throws for 80 yards/game every other game this year, you’d feel pretty dumb calling him elite.

Barkley was an elite prospect, but his performance wasn’t exactly elite his first year (even arguably his second either).

  • ftfo2009

Also in the same way you could call Booty, Corp, Mustain, Kessler and Wittek elite – but we don’t.

  • Trojanfan

Encinitas Bruin, you’re trying to deflect your lack of football knowledge by calling me out over something petty in nature, you’re an idiot. First a scout, now a English teacher, i hope you don’t quit your day job.

Wow, just 2 games into his college career and you label him elite, your boy may of been elite at the HS level. First put him through a full season, then come back and make a case.

    Troll on

    55-0
    66-19

  • http://www.yahoo.com Bruin Rob is my idol

Maurice Jones Drew, has represented UCLA very well, having been the top rusher in the NFL the last two years, has ran circles around Bush…Maurice Drew is a hero at UCLA….REGGIE BUSH shitted on your program, and helped in handing USC one of the most severe sanctions ever…NUFF SAID!

  • Encinitas Bruin

You guys make some great points about Hundley. Obviously he is not an elite college QB at this point. I meant out of HS–you guys are used to landing 5-star QBs like Palmer, Leinart, and Barkley. It’s been a loooong time since UCLA did. My point is that SC fans know that without a great QB and OL, it’s difficult to win 10 games a year. (Not impossible, but difficult.) UCLA isn’t going to win 10 games behind the Kevin Prince’s of the world. Will Hundley’s career pan out? Obvioulsy I’d be an idiot to make a prediction on that.

I’m not a hater, and I’m not a troll hiding behind some dumb-ass anti-SC screen name.

Just trying to engage on the topic of the post.

  • LovetheCapper

Slob, nobody at SC cares about the NFL. Bush made Miss Jones Hyphen Drew look like a Brownie.

Encinitas, you are correct. I think if Hundley stays healthy, he will change the course of bRuin Football. No National Championship, but 2nd place in the division ain’t bad!

  • ftfo2009

Thanks encinitas for being cordial. I don’t disagree on any point, but I would predict that by the time Hundley is a senior, Mora will be fired or in the NFL, depending on his performance.

Also, the door is apparently wide open now that Utah decided to lose to Utah State.

  • Encinitas Bruin

ftfo2009, the funny thing is that mediocre pro coaches seem to have some weird way of turning into very good college coaches at times (Carroll the perfect example). All I know is that there is a very different attitude and demeanor with the Bruins under Mora. There’s a fire, intensity, and aggressiveness with the players that I rarely saw under Dorrell or Neuheisel. Just one long-time season ticket holder’s humble opinion.

Good luck against the Cardinal. Should be a good game. SC 44 Stanford 27.

  • ftfo2009

Didn’t see much of the Nebraska game (had it on a different tv) but everytime i looked up something big was happening. All I know is if UCLA is good, it make the pac-12 look good, and it hopefully gets some of these trolls away.

  • Encinitas Bruin

I have only seen bits of SC games this year. Barkley’s been a monster. Helps to have the best receiving corps in the nation. Curious, having not watched a complete game: the running game’s been pretty quiet. Is that just because SC hasn’t had to utilize?

  • Encinitas Bruin

    Earlier post about receiving corps….

USC has the best receivers in the nation.

UCLA has a monster in TE Joseph Fauria. 6’8″ with hands and agility. Freak of nature.

  • ftfo2009

I like to believe Kiffins keeping the playbook tight, but idk for sure. Felt like half the plays were bubble screens/quick outs. I feel that when things get going, he’ll start hitting up our TEs and FB, who are apparently pretty good.

  • Sam Gilbert

Rob has moved on to Maurice’s NFL numbers and has given up on trying to argue that his college accomplishments are anywhere near Reggie’s. At least Rob isn’t completely delusional.

The only real question is who humiliated Maurice more, Reggie or Shad Khan.

  • http://willsec Trojan 74

Welcome back bruins….. to college football that is

  • steve49

Ucla gets perhaps a real test this weekend, as does USC.
The ruins have not played anyone, Nebraska is disgusting and way over rated, they shouldn’t be in the top 25 at all.

Scott, run this over again on Sunday.
