Lingering Questions

Some things floating around in the wake of the upset:

Has USC really lived up to its hype in any of its first 3 games? Even the second half of the Hawaii game was not sharp.

Is this defense capable of shutting down an opponent for 4 quarters?

Can Matt Barkley complete the deep ball?

Stanford coach David Shaw proved you win college football games with defense and running the ball. When will Lane Kiffin learn this? He didn’t even run against Hawaii.

If the offensive line is going to be the scapegoat, where is freshman Max Tuerk?

Why the stubborn refusal to even kick a 30-yard FG with kickers available who made much longer field goals in high school?

  1. I feel so sorry for Matt Barkley. He forsook guaranteed tens of millions of dollars for this? I was afraid he wasn’t going to survive the game with the brutal pounding he took for free. The OL gets a big F. Perhaps now Lane will refocus exclusively on football instead of protecting the Coliseum grass from opposing team walk throughs, shoes and banning reporters. The air has gone out of his big head and that will be a good thing. Here’s to salvaging the season, going undefeated the rest of the way and making the BCS as the #2 team.

  2. 1.) No.

2.) No defense is capable of shutting down any opponent with you can’t make first downs on offense.

3.) Kiffen apparently doesn’t think so.

    4.) Never.

5.) Kiffen committed to Walker at LT, but next year they should move him back inside and play Turek at LT next year. Just because you have the physical attributes for a NFL left tackle, doesn’t mean you are one. See, i.e., Webb, JaMarcus, Chicago Bears.

6.) Because Kiffen likes to get cute. Hello Kiffy!

  3. We fixed the O line problems following 2006 ucla game. Sometimes tough to get in any offensive rythem when under duress

  4. Has USC really lived up to its hype in any of its first 3 games? Even the second half of the Hawaii game was not sharp… it was all hype to begin with. A Goatboy Kiffin team will never be that good. He has to have alot more talent just to beat a Hawaii. The guy is a fraud

Is this defense capable of shutting down an opponent for 4 quarters? … No, Monte is as dumb as his moron kid. Last in the nation on 3rd downs on both sides of the ball. These guys are a complete joke !

Can Matt Barkley complete the deep ball? … always has been a duck thrower when over 15 yds. Most overrated qb since Brady Quinn, but at least Quinn could move. Barney stands in there like statue. Make a play once !

Stanford coach David Shaw proved you win college football games with defense and running the ball. When will Lane Kiffin learn this? He didn’t even run against Hawaii… Shaw is living off of Harbaughs scheme and player. He is as dumb as Kiffin , if his team played well last nite they win by 30.

If the offensive line is going to be the scapegoat, where is freshman Max Tuerk?.. Goatboy Kiffin has to blame someone besides his stupid self

Why the stubborn refusal to even kick a 30-yard FG with kickers available who made much longer field goals in high school?.. Goat likes cute , the moron has to be like 4 for 50 on trick plays .Just one dumb coach

  5. 1. No
    2. Defense has played well, good enough to win. A total of 21 points given up in the Pac 12 when the Offense does nothing in the last 41 minutes is outstanding.
    3. Rarely has, but hasn’t been asked to often
    4. Good point..the SEC defenses would destroy this or any other Pass Only team
    5. The O-Line was the perceived strength going into the year. One injury should not have made this big of difference.
    6. Good point, although a TD was dropped on the fake, along with several other drops when the receivers were hit hard.
I expected this to be the trap game…after retruning from the long cross country trip and hitting the road again (i,e. 2009 Washington)

  6. 1. Definitely! We beat the h*ll out of Hawaii and the Cuse, alternating players on defense.

    2. Sure they can, provided the offense/Head Coach shows up for the second half.

    3. MB7 never called upon to throw deep pass when in big road game. Kif…play not to lose.

    4. Not true today. If our ground sucks and our passing game can go short, intermediate and deep, and is blessed with MULTIPLE EXCELLENT RECEIVERS and a HEISMANN QB with protection, pass the fu*king ball !!!

    5. Did we not run the ball against Stanford 95% of the time at #70’s a$$ or to the right or left of Hobbi? Sure we did. Why? Game to game, #70’s performance has deteriorated from C- to F demoralizing our 5 gifted returnies, while Hobbi was being knocked backwards and blowing assignments over and over again. Kiffin…affirmative action lacky?

    6. Gotta kick the field goal. Kif, I believe with all my heart that 95% of Scott’s bloggers can kick a 30 yard field goal. Again, STUPID!

The Worst….calling a running play to Curtis McNeal, who spent most of the first half injured in the locker room, with the ball on the USC 47 yard line and THREE SECONDS ON THE CLOCK. So he carries the ball 30 yards and gets hammered by 5 Stanford secondary folks playing prevent defense. Kif, you must not have the range of intellect to be aware of your players physical wellbeing. KInda makes you, Kif, somewhat of an A-hole.

  7. Pat Hill … please hire Pat Hill after this season.

    1. No, SC didn’t protect well against hawaii and can’t convert on short yardage.

    2. No, they are not condition well enough, lack discipline, and are not sound tacklers.

    3. Yes, but an offensive scheme would help.

    4. He won’t, that’s why its time for Pat Hill and SC will be good every year.

    5. Why is Turek not playing? Why can’t you kick field goals at USC? Just baffling.

Enough of this… hire Pat Hill as soon as this season is over. He did at Fresno with a bunch of rejects. USC would be unstoppable pounding the rock and killing it on D. it only worked for about 70 years.

    Hire Pat HILL!!!

  8. Wolf would sound so much less like a whining little weasel if he wrote like this:

USC was finally exposed but the Trojans failed to live up to their preseason hype in all three of their early season games.

Monte Kiffin’s defense does not appear capable of shutting down an offense for four quarters.

Barkley’s ability to complete deep passes is questionable.

Teams like Stanford and Alabama are winning with excellent rushing attacks and strong defense. Kiffin should follow suit.

Kiffin should have pulled Walker and played Tuerk.

Kiffin’s disdain for settling for field goals finally caught up with him.

  9. Calm It On Down The Road!!!

Yes kiffin made some mistakes against Stanny, but hes not that bad. Those calling for him to get fired need to pump their brakes!
