Morning Buzz

Here is my recap of Stanford’s upset over USC, as the Trojans managed only 14 points with their high-powered offense. Link here.
And here’s my story on tailback Silas Redd, who said his arm went numb from a shoulder stinger. Link here.

  1. Hilarious. Scott’s “injury” reporting on Redd was from Kurt Sandoval of ABC 7! That’s what Redd told Kurt on a live feed. Come on Scott. You can do better than that.

  2. Read all the comments about the game, and how typical, that UGLY Bucket and a few of the other UCKLA vermin on this blog just could not show some class and shut up.

And the SC “faithful” seem to have lost faith. Me too. Can’t help it. Just feel really blue today. Relish in that UGLY.

  3. Spud, I could care less if it’s 9 more in a row. Won’t affect my life. The enjoyment you trolls get out of a USC loss is laughable. WE DON’T CARE WHAT FUCLA DOES! That’s what gets you trolls.

  4. Like a stopped clock twice a day, spedjones is right.

USC will lose to Oregon, Notre Dame and to one of the Arizona schools. 50/50 chance they lose to UCLA. Could go 6-6. Only gimme games are Colorado and UW, because on the quickly withering Pete Carroll Coaching Tree, Kiffen is one twig above Sark.

The play calling yesterday was a lot like the 2006 Rose Bowl on fourth and two, or the 13-9 UCLA game, or the 2010 Notre Dame game.

When there is nothing to lose, Kiffen relaxes. When the games mean something, Kiffen freezes. Did so as an OC under Carroll, did so in the NFL, did so at Tennessee when he realized that he’s never going to win in a conference playing against Saban and Miles and Spurrier and Richt and Meyer. He is not a winner, he is a recruiter and an assistant masquerading as a head coach.

The Pac 12 is better all around because the new Pac12 TV money has allowed schools to hire better staffs. Rich Rod, Todd Graham, Jim Mora and even Mike Leach are real head coaches. Mike Reilly, Chip Kelly, David Shaw have proven themselves to be better head coaches than Lane Kiffen. That leaves who, Sark and Embree as Kiffen;s equals in skill. It going to be a long three years until the sanctions end Haden can attract a real head coach.

Barkley lost millions of dollars not coming out last year. Stanford exposed Barkley’s weakness, he is short and he has an average arm, so he struggles when pressure comes over the middle because he can’t take a short drop and see the field middle of the field. And you know what, NFL defenses have changed, the pressure comes from the interior as much as from the edge, because NFL offenses throw increasingly short strikes over the middle to the tight end. That is Barkley’s weakest part of his game because of his physical shortcomings. Last Year when ASU blitzed inside Barley tanked. Cal did the same, and shut down Barkley, but thank god Zack Maynard crapped the bed.

Barkley is not a top five pick. What GM is going to stake his rep and livelihood on a 6 foot QB with an average arm and no athletic ability? Drew Brees was not a first round pick, in fact he was so disappointing his first three years the Chargers drafted Phillip Rivers.

Unfortunately Matt Barkley is much in the same situation as Taylor Mays. Both were programmed to play a game the NFL has moved away from. Cam Newton, RG3 and Andrew Luck are the future NFL prototype QB’s. If lucky, Barkley will be drafted in the lower first round by a decent team where he doesn’t have to be the savior. It is unfortunate, because he seems to be a good kid, but Matt Barkley is not a top five pick.

  5. Great post McKnown … you nailed it
Loved the Kiff and Suckisian lines … those guys sucked when they were at SC and still suck

  6. Points to Scott (Wolf, not Larry) for going anonymous third person with “Lane Kiffin banned a Daily News reporter from practice”. Oh, that gift will keep giving for weeks to come, and winning is the only sanitizer. I feel bad for Sark for thinking he could get away with it when there is no expectation that the Huskies will consistently win this season. Lemming move by an otherwise good guy.

  7. Cade excellent post !!!

I believe MB7 is 6-2 and has no trouble seeing up field. Our season will fall apart only if these damn injuries continue, especially to Khaled Holmes, and Kiffin continues to choke. Stanford isn’t near the quality they were last year. ND, Oregon, and UCLA will be tough. Our talent can get it done. Can our Head Coach?????

Aside: am I imagining things or did Cuse and Stanford DB’s get away with pass interference against all our receivers time and time again? If that is the case, we are in for trouble.

    FIGHT ON !!!

  8. Too much HYPE (recruiting, QB, O.L., DB’S, R.B’s, D.L., coaching staff…other than that…Things are “marvy”)..not enough substance. Tough games (losses?) coming up against Cal, Oregon, Ariz, Ariz State, Wash, Notre Dame, and UCLA and UTAH.
Dare I ask???, but could this be the year…of the GREAT 4-8???? It’s not too late, because “Barney’s a fake, and you guys are just BAD, for heavens sake.
4 & 8 Sure sounds G-R-E-A-T and that, my friends, would take the cake!
    fit on torgan!
