Dept. Of Overkill

Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o is on the cover of Sports Illustrated and there was this quote from Irish defensive coordinator Bob Diaco on Wednesday.
I would say that Manti’s the finest football player in America, all positions, all teams in college,” Diaco said.
USC is not immune from hyperbole as Lane Kiffin’s said Marvin Sanders is the best secondary coach in the nation.
But back to Te’o, isn’t he the same guy who wasn’t considered a lock as a first-round draft pick last year? And has anyone seen Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones play? Why isn’t he the best player in the country?

  1. I think we can all agree that Scott is the best USC beat reporter who works for the Daily News, has a blog, and wears soccer shirts. #NotOverkill

  2. Is this the same Manti Teo that got run over in South Bend last year by Curtis McNeal? Who is all of what, 5’8″ at best? Yeah, best player in the country. He’s not the best player on his team – I’d give that to TE Tyler Eifert or whatever his name is. zZz.

  3. Teo is good, but he’s not THAT good. Still, it’s funny that the two best LBs in college football were both supposed to go to SC (one did and transferred).

Yet, SC still has one of the best LB groups in the nation. That’s just ridiculous.

  4. so interesting that with Manti and Vontaze, the trOZans would be working on Kiff’s 3rd straight BCS Natty. but you cant put lipstick on a flying pig.

now Manti could be getting one while trOXans have BLOWN yet another BCS champeeeenship!!! what is that now 7-8 you guys couldda-shouldda had???

    football school. (chortle)
