How did UW win? First, did anyone notice they were the home team? They also stacked the line and they’re pretty fast on defense.
So how did Stanford’s offense play?
They dropped AT LEAST three long catchable passes (mixed in with Nunes’ usual 3-4 very poor throws towards open guys) and lost their FIRST fumble of the season. The Cardinal defense played very well, but made the huge mistake it never did against ‘SC: misreading an end-of-quarter, late-in-the-play-clock handoff and watching it go long down the field for a TD.
It was still a close game (as was ours), but every contest is different. Anyone who saw UW play @ LSU and Stanford play @ UW has to appreciate how much college football is like that.
Yes, it is also the team that you, as a paid college football analyst, voted as being the 10th best team in the country.

Stanford is a big strong football team with a terrible quarterback. This permitted Washington to stack the line of scrimmage and focus on shutting down the Cardinal running game.
That said, I thought Stanford dominated the game and did what a visiting team needs to do to win. The last TD run by Washington was pure luck. That sort of lucky run happens now and then when teams stack the box on short run 4th down situations. Sort of the mirror opposite of prevent defenses.
What can be learned from comparing teams? I think Stanford is a much better team than Washington and would win 4 out of 5 games in Seattle. Price over Nunes is the only reason the Huskies were in the game.
USC should beat Washington up there by 2+ scores. Wins over Utah and Washington should get the program headed back in the right direction.
Other than Oregon and USC, there are no fine football teams in the Pac 12. Which is ok because there are no fine football teams at all in the Big 10. Maybe 2 in the Big 12. Maybe 3 in the SEC, 2 in the ACC. I do not see any undefeated teams still standing in December.
